Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with the “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about the hot new trend FROZEN PARTIES inspired by Disney’s new movie, Frozen.

One of the best kid’s movies I’ve seen in a long time, Frozen is sure to be one of the most requested birthday party themes of the year.  I’m excited to share with you my ideas for styling a Frozen sweets table for your next party without using any Frozen themed commercial party products.  To pull in the Disney Frozen elements, I simply used Frozen toys and a package of Queen Elsa dress up items!

CREATE A FROZEN SCENE USING CREATIVE ELEMENTS

***

Vinyl Backdrops & Blanket Table Linens:

Backdrops and table linen is where I start to set the scene for any themed sweets table.  Since most of the movie was set in a wintery environment, I wanted to recreate that look and feel so I stuck to an icy blue and white color palette.

To set the scene, I used this sparkly silvery white vinyl backdrop from Bubblegum Backdrops to resemble the twinkly icy landscape and this furry white blanket as a table linen that looks just like a wintery blanket of snow on the table.  To complete the look I added three crystal trees towering above the table that look just like those ice covered trees from the movie!

Clear Acrylic & Glass to represent Ice and Sugar to represent Snow

Ice and snow were a huge part of the movie Frozen, but you can’t exactly use snow and ice in your sweets table design without a melted mess, so it’s time to get creative!  I use clear acrylic or plastic trays filled with clear acrylic rocks to simulate the look of crushed ice and mix in glass faux ice cubes to add blocks of ice as decor details.

Sugar is my go-to decor element whenever I’m trying to simulate the look of snow.  It’s sparkly look is perfect, is so easy to work with and is readily available in your local grocery store.

SNOW THEMED DESSERTS & CANDY COMPLETE THE LOOK

When designing a Frozen themed dessert table, it’s important to keep the color palette consistent even in the actual desserts & candy you display on the table.  Here I had the amazing Autumn Lynn’s Chocolate Sins custom create these sparkly candy apples, mini donuts and cake pops that went perfectly with the theme.  Finish it off with all white candy from Candy Warehouse and use creative displays like this push pop acrylic stand from Koyal Wholesale filled with white sugar bead candy and topped with white tulle sticks from Fizzy Party that look like sparkly balls of snow.

DIY QUEEN ELSA’S ICE CASTLE CUPCAKE DISPLAY

Check out how cool this DIY Queen Elsa’s ice castle cupcake display looks nestled in a tray of snowy sugar.  This was so easy to do using items from my kitchen, store-bought cupcakes and adding a few designer items like these glitter cupcake wrappers from Dress My Cupcake, fondant snowflake toppers from Edible Details, bling Sparkle Sticks from Made By A Princess and bling frame from Talia’s Creative Printing.  For the full tutorial and tips on how to recreate this cupcake display, click here.

FINISHING TOUCHES

My FAVORITE part…coming up with those little creative touches that will have your guests saying “WOW!”

Winter Wonderland Terraniums
One of my favorite party decor trends right now are terrariums.  Most times you see them with garden items in them like rocks, flowers and moss, but here I thought it would be an unexpected touch to fill apothecary jars from Koyal Wholesale with sugar and wintery items to create winter wonderland terrariums to use as decor for the table.  Look at the snowman Olaf making an appearance!

Frozen Inspired Tutu Dress for the Guest of Honor
For all of my parties, making the guest of honor feel like the star of the day is top priority and what better way to do that than to have them wear a custom-designed outfit that matches your party’s theme.  Any little girl will feel like an ice princess with this gorgeous tutu dress by Atutudes!

The cake pops and donuts are inedible because they're covered in plastic craft glitter [aka disco dust].
