Learn how to make your own Poison Bath Oil like the ones seen in today’s All Hallow’s Eve Dinner Party feature!

The party’s host, Bettijo B. Hirschi, is co-blogger over at Paging Supermom, and she is also founder of an organic bath and spa collection called Bath By Bettijo. Drawing on that area of expertise, Bettijo created this creative, spooky favor “potion” to give to her Halloween party guests.

POISON BATH OIL HALLOWEEN PARTY FAVORS

Ingredients & Supplies:

(makes 6)

• 4 cups Soybean Oil
• 
2 cups Olive Oil
• 1 tablespoon (approx 0.5 fl oz) Bergamot Essential Oil
• 1 tablespoon Vitamin E (optional)
• 250mL Quatro Glass Bottles with Corks: found at Essential Supplies
• Bottle Sealing Wax: Brew Masters Warehouse
• Brass Skull & Crossbones Wax Seal: Nostalgic Impressions

Instructions

For the Oil:

In a large pitcher or measuring cup with good pouring spout (preferably glass or ceramic), mix together the Soybean and Olive Oil. Add the Vitamin E, if using — this ingredient helps to slow rancidity in oils and extends the shelf life. Finally mix in the essential oil. We like Bergamot, which has an earthy-citrus aroma that seems just right for ‘poison’, but if you have a favorite you could really substitute whichever essential oil you desire. Let the oil mixture stand for at least 15 minutes to allow the essential oil to infuse through the other oils.

Mix again and using a funnel, transfer approximately 1 cup of the oil mixture to each of the bottles — we used 250mL Quatro glass bottles with corks. Place a cork into the bottle opening and press firmly until the cork is flush with the top of the glass. If you have a rubber or wood mallet, this would be useful for tapping in the cork.

For the Sealing Wax & Labeling:

Prepare the sealing wax by filling a tin can about two-thirds of the way with the wax beads. Using a double boiler, melt the wax in the can using a popsicle stick (or other heat-resistant stirrer that you won’t mind tossing later). Once the wax is nice and liquid, remove from heat and place on a trivet on the counter.

Holding the sealed bottles upside down, dip the top two-inches into the wax and quickly remove. Repeat 3-4 times to create a thick wax coating.

After removing from the wax the last time, immediately stamp the top of the bottle with the skull & crossbones seal. If the wax is already too cool (it sets quickly!) and won’t take the impression, dip your stirring stick into the wax and drizzle a puddle onto the top of the bottle then stamp.

Download and print the FREE label template here! We printed our labels on brown kraft paper. Rather than cutting them out, we used a straight edge and tore out the labels — this gave them a more rustic feel.

Run the labels through a Xyron Create-A-Sticker Maker to make them sticky. Alternatively, you could print the template onto a full-sheet label. Stick a label on each bottle.”
