I wanted to share a few pics we took of the awesome DRUM SET birthday cake that my friend ordered for her husband’s “Heavy Metal” themed {surprise} 40th birthday party – pretty cool, right?!! This design could actually work well for a variety of themes – from Heavy Metal to Rock Star to any music-based theme. The cake was created by OC-based bakery The Cupcake Store, and they even incorporated fondant drumsticks and made fondant LP records {remember those?!} for the cupcakes!

This was a REALLY fun adult party and I wish I had more pics to share… but as a quick recap, Leslie {the hostess/wife of the birthday “boy”} borrowed electric guitars from several friends to use as party decor, and then we strung white lights all around, displayed bottles of Jack Daniel’s & 40‘s alongside the guitars, and covered the walls in heavy metal posters from bands like Metallica, White Snake, and Poison. (The posters were SO inexpensive but very effective decor!). Yes… this party was all about CLASS, as you can tell. *wink*

Leslie even ordered a gazillion Bud Light 40‘s as perfectly coordinating “party favors” and they were were handed out to every single guest right before the birthday toast (which actually turned out to be a pretty sweet/sentimental moment for a heavy-metal themed party)! And of course people were encouraged to dress in theme, which was the best “party decor” of all!

P.S. As I mentioned above, this Drum Set design would also look fantastic at any “Rock Star” or music-themed themed party… like the equal-parts-cool-and-adorable one that HWTM contributor Jessica Wilcox threw for her young son’s birthday. Check that party out here!
