DIY Campfire Cake Tutorial

This campfire cake is the type of dessert that you can make JUST FOR THE FUN OF IT!

Or maybe you’re throwing a camping themed party… or looking for an awesome excuse to eat chocolate. That totally works, too. 😉

The first thing you’ll need to do is make or buy a chocolate cake. The cake will serve as your “campground”.

(If you have the time, I recommend making it just for the benefits of licking the bowl/spoon/frosting spatula. It’s the little things in life, you know! Pull at the frosting with the back of a spoon to spatula to form “wavy” peaks on top.)

For the cake topper, you’ll need:

  • Logs (pirouette cookies)
  • Fire (printable flame)
  • Embers (crushed candy)

Steps:

  1. Arrange cookie “logs” into a pile on top of the cake. Feel free to break them, stick some of them into the cake, etc to get the look you want.
  2. Print & cut out the flame topper. Tape it to a wooden skewer, then get some fire on those logs!
  3. Crush up some red and yellow candy. I recommend butterscotch and cinnamon discs – they’re easy to find and taste great with chocolate! Sprinkle the “embers” around the fire.

And you’re done!

P.S. The zip file with the free printable flame topper also includes the matching “Grub Time” sign in 2 colorways. It looks super cute sitting next to the cake. :)
