PARTY DETAILS, as told by Kelly…

“The initial inspiration for this wedding started with some blue rimmed plates I happened upon at a local linen rental store. Turns out, the plates came from IKEA. So,  from there a theme blossomed. Since I knew my friend (the mommy-to-be) liked anything Anthropologie related, I decided to bring to life a shower that would be in line with this style.

I had a wonderful stationer, Liz of Blush Design Studio, who I originally located on Etsy, create the most gorgeous letterpress vintage inspired invitations. I completed the look by using a combination of old vintage stamps in colors coordinating with the invitation.  The flower pattern on the invitation itself perfectly embodied what I wanted to bring to life with the decor…peonies, ranunculus, and a mix of spray roses…a very romantic & lush look.   I gathered a small collection of miniature vases (some vintage, and some simply vintage inspired) over the course of a couple months…as I wanted a hodgepodge, mix-matched feel  for the containers.  Taking these vases, Laura Tran of SCF Events was able to create exactly what I’d pictured with a combination of fresh flowers in ivory & champagne hues. I also accented the table with a few white-washed vintage-type wooden chairs and a couple of birdcages, in addition to some pretty wooden candlesticks.

Upon entry into the shower, the guests were asked to sign-in & rather than just write their name, they were asked to share some sage parenting advice with the mom-to-be.  The heartfelt words of advice were meaningful and a special treasure to the new mommy. Prior to the shower, I collected baby pictures from the parents of the new mommy & daddy to be to display above the guest book simply using my Christmas card holder—which did the trick perfectly.

Additional table décor included custom-made napkins sewn by Funny Farm Creations, using a fabric I found that mimicked the invitation design almost exactly.

For table assignments, I wanted something equally vintage-esque and initially tried to locate vases in which I could slip a placecard into or on the outside of. When my search came up short, I decided to improvise and make something I’d never seen before—etched glass placecard vases.  But rather than them actually being etched into glass…I wanted to create the same look using decals, since I use them a lot in my job as a wedding planner.  I purchased inexpensive tiny vases from save-on-crafts.com and had my decal maker print the names of the guests on etched glass decal sheets. I then applied them each by hand, and the end result was a pleasant surprise.  Each guest was able to take home their individual vases as a lasting memory of the baby shower, and these would also be something they would be able to use again.

The delicious spread of food was provided by GranMere’s Catering and included: Asparagus and Green Beans with Lemon-Basil Dip, Marinated Shrimp, Crab Wontons, Strawberry Poppers, Baked Brie with Dried Cherries and Pistachios, Corn & Broccoli Muffins, Spicy Cheddar Cheese Straws and Goat Cheese with Sunflower Seeds, Honey and Fresh Raspberries.

Since the mom-to-be has a new found sweet tooth ever since becoming pregnant, we thought it fitting to create a dessert table in her honor. Mom’s favorite treats are cupcakes, so we had a multitude of various flavored cupcakes from Crave . The setting was complete with macarons, cake pops, and miniature lemon raspberry cakes in cute little individual mason jars complete with their own wooden spoons. Nothing goes better with cupcakes than milk, so we also had little individual milk bottles. I topped these off with cute matching straws from HeyYoYo .  After guests had a chance to snack on their goodies during the shower, they were able to pack a small craft box full of treats to take home. The fabric for the backdrop behind the dessert table was purchased off of fabrics.com. The adorable pennant banner was made by Funny Farm Creations. The signs were made using printable sheets of birch wood, and attached using small wooden clothespins.

The mommy-to-be had a wonderful day making memories and eagerly anticipating the upcoming arrival of her new bundle of joy!”
