PARTY DETAILS, as told by Iris

Since my daughter, Skylar, absolutely loves all things fairy, we decided to throw her a party where her girlfriends could come over and all of them could be transformed into beautiful fairies!  After eating lunch, each girl got to pick out her own tutu, wings, fairy headband, and then get her hair done.  A special thanks to my sister-in-law, Michelle, and friend, Kim, who did an excellent job taking special hairdo requests from the girls.  Once their hair was done, the girls continued their makeover by going to the jewelry table where they got to select a butterfly ring and bracelet, and then get their nails painted.

After their makeovers were complete, they got to finish their fairy looks by decorating their own wands.  The girls got to select their own special glittery wand and customized them by adding ribbon and glittery foam flower stickers.  After finishing their special craft, all the fairies participated in a photo shoot!  My husband was the photographer and the girls were so cute smiling and posing for the camera.  Afterwards, all of the guests were treated to beautiful music.  My sweet and very talented 14-year-old niece, Mikala, played her guitar and sang some very special songs.  The girls (as well as the parents) really enjoyed the special performance.

Party Decor

To stay on a budget, I created a lot of DIY pieces for this party.  I started by creating party printables in pink, purple, lime green, and yellow and based everything else off of those colors.  One of my favorite décor items were the floral centerpieces with pictures of Skylar that were on the main seating table.  The tutorial for the centerpieces can be found here. I had coordinating fabric that my mother-in-law hemmed so I can use them as table runners for both the dessert table and main seating table.  To make the paper products a bit more special, I created custom fairy “Happy Birthday” straw flags to attach to pink and white striped straws, and also glued silk flowers to paper cups.

Another special piece of décor was a wooden white beverage cart that my husband built himself, and we used it as a thank you table.  I made a custom sign that said, “Skylar thinks you are fairy sweet, please take home a yummy treat!”  I also made custom mini treat bags filled with purple and pink Nerds, along with custom-wrapped mini Hershey chocolates that the guests got to take home.  But the most special item on the thank you cart was a custom doll figure created by my sister-in-law, Beatriz, that was made to look like a mini-version of the birthday girl!

Dessert Table

The dessert table was one of the focal points of the party.   I used purple and white floral fabric as the backdrop to my custom-made banner that said, “Fairy Treats”.  In the center was a beautiful pink rosette cake created Publix.  I first saw the Rosette Cake on Glorious Treats. and I showed my Publix baker what I wanted and they did an amazing job creating it!  Other desserts included homemade marshmallow pops, Rice Crispy Treat Pops drizzled in white chocolate, white chocolate covered pretzels, vanilla yogurt raisins, and the most beautiful daisy cookies (inspired by Sweetopia), created by Meredith of Cookie Friends. Meredith has made cookies for me in the past and she always exceeds my expectations on how beautiful her creations are!  I also  bought plain white vanilla cupcakes from Walmart and decorated them with my customized cupcake toppers.

We had such a wonderful time celebrating with our family and Skylar had a magical day!  I could not have done this without the help of my amazing husband, Chris, and all of the wonderful friends and family who made this celebration extremely special.
