PARTY DETAILS, as told by Sophia…

Theme

Olivia’s First Year Fairy Tale, An Enchanted First Birthday

Olivia’s mom is a skilled artist with aspirations of being a children’s storybook illustrator.  When baby Olivia arrived, she had prepared beautiful and elaborate themed drawings for Olivia’s room, which showcased adorable little fairies in the images of Olivia and her older sister sharing a book together in a colorful forest.  Using her illustrations as inspiration, our Enchanted Storybook theme for Olivia’s first birthday party came to life!

Decor

We wanted to bring Olivia’s mom’s artwork to life by keeping the décor warm and inviting, while enhancing details with a rich spectrum of colors to exude something magical!  Our venue had large open windows with lots of natural light coming in and a view of a lake immediately outside.  A great first layer to our blank canvas!

To give our rather large room a little character, we mixed traditional round tables with longer banquet style tables for guest seating.  Our banquet tables displayed earthy green custom runners from Wildflower Linens with floral embellishments and pale green linens covered our rounds.  Dark fruitwood chiavari chairs added a  woodsy component to complete the set up.

The neutral tones of the linens complemented the whimsy and personality of the florals appropriately from Enchanted Florist.  Birch wrapped containers comprised of a variety of textures and colors, included moss, peonies, hydrangea, dendrobium orchids, green ivy, ranunculus, tulips, and roses to name a few!  And of course there were little butterfly accents too!  Each was arranged to look composed, but loose and natural with lots of texture.  Classic children’s storybooks were layered under each arrangement for an extra visual touch and homage to our theme.

The family also wanted to celebrate Olivia’s dad’s Korean culture and featured a table, called the dol sahng, in the front of the room.

An intricate and charming arch of curly willow framed the table, covered with an embellishment of fresh blooms and greenery.

The table displayed an arrangement of Korean birthday towers, and bite sized traditional rice cakes as well as a two tiered birthday rice cake.

Sweet Display

Our concept of the Giving Tree, a beautifully enhanced tree was arranged in the center of our room surrounded by the most delightful miniature sweets from Sweet & Saucy Shop.  Each mini dessert was thought out with a children’s book or character in mind.  From “Willy Wonka’s Candy Bar Cupcakes,” to “Cinderella’s Midnight Pumpkin Caramel Cheesecake Bites,” and “Little Red Riding Hood’s Red Velvet Cake Pops,” as well as “Snow White’s Not Poisonous Apple Pies,” conceiving each dessert was a trip down favorite childhood stories.  In addition to the variety of character inspired sweets, we included petite cupcakes with mini storybook toppers.  A collection of large books and woodsy fairy tale elements added decorative accents and to celebrate our little birthday wood nymph, pictures of Olivia were incorporated throughout the table as well as from glass globes hanging from the tree.

Stationery

I absolutely loved our stationery!  The artwork was provided by our personal artist, Olivia’s mom, and Cherish Paperie did an amazing job in putting it all together.

Titled “Olivia’s First Year Fairy Tale” our invitations were written out as miniature stories inviting guests to “fairy princess Olivia’s” first birthday celebration.

Olivia’s mom even designed the map art for the invitations!

Cherish Paperie cleverly incorporated all of mom’s artwork into all our event day stationery pieces from the dessert cards, reserved signs, and welcome table signage.

My personal favorite was a birthday program that we conceptualized to continue the fairy tale first introduced via our invitations.  Having arrived at the day of celebration, we integrated the event’s menu details and also included our version of Mad Libs via Mad “O-Libs” to entertain our guests.  Booklets with the same program cover filled with coloring and activity pages were prepared for our kiddy guests as well.

Entertainment

Dream Come True Entertainment brought Snow White and Cinderella to life, who entertained our little guests through storytelling, face-painting and games personalized for the event.  They even spent time signing autographs for all our princess devotees!

All guests were encouraged to participate in a dance-off competition judged by Olivia’s parents, along with Snow White and Cinderella.

With a grand prize of dinner at Ruth’s Chris on the line, parent and child competitors were pretty fierce battling for the title!

Olivia’s day was beyond magical and it was truly an honor to be a part of her enchanting storybook celebration!
