PARTY DETAILS, as told by Kelly

Theme

Since doing a magic act in the school talent show several months prior, my daughter had been pleading with me to have a magic themed birthday party! And what mommy could say no to her sweet almost-six-year-old? I had a few of my own tricks up my sleeve as I started to brainstorm ideas for the big day!  Since purple is one of my daughter’s favorite colors… I decided to put a modern spin on an otherwise classic theme by incorporating the ever-popular chevron design with purple, black, white & silver as my color palette.

Invitation

First, to set the tone of the party off right, I wanted an invitation that would entice that magical spirit! So, spinning off of an idea I saw online at Oh Happy Day, I decided to have custom balloons printed up with a cute rhyme inviting the guests to the magical day! I then used chevron printed paper squares and attached the balloons using baker’s twine, and delivered the invitations in purple metallic envelopes with silver lettering. They were a hit!

Party Dress

As luck would have it, through a quick google search, I even found the perfect dress for my daughter to wear for the occasion… a purple sequined chevron patterned dress by Adore La Vie through a children’s boutique clothing website, LLBD Shop. She of course LOVED it in all its sparkly goodness!

Decoration & Costume

As the party guests arrived on the big day, they were presented with their own gorgeous custom-made reversible fabric cape to transform each child into a magician for the day! They then were able to find their assigned seat at the kid sized royal table (complete with child sized chiavari chairs) where they found their own magic hat & wand. To accent the table, there were several magic hats with amazing centerpieces full of varying hues of purple flowers. I later gave these centerpieces to a few of my friends who worked hard in helping me set up and breakdown this grand affair. It’s always nice to have special pals you can count on to help with the grunt work involved in hosting an event!

Magic Show & Carications

Soon after the guests’ arrival, the highlight of the party got underway! The MAGIC SHOW, of course! Master Illusionist James Austin Banner wowed both children and adults with his repertoire of fantastic tricks such as turning eggs into live birds, producing a live bunny out of an empty box, and for the finale…levitating the birthday girl in mid-air! The kids (and adults) were absolutely speechless & totally amazed! The looks on the kids’ faces were absolutely priceless! Watching their awe & sheer delight made all of my hard work & late nights leading up to the party completely worth it! After the show, kids were able to pet the magician’s live bunny while the magician made them all balloon animals. We also had a caricature artist on hand to add to the fun!

Dessert Table

Then it was time to sing happy birthday to the birthday girl! She had insisted upon a “rabbit in a hat” cake, and I have to admit, it was the most delicious (and quite possibly cutest) chocolate cake ever! This served as the centerpiece of the dessert table, which also included such delicacies as “Presto Popcorn” (delicious glazed popcorn my husband makes each year for my daughter’s parties), “Magical Macaroons”, a purple “Abracadabra Cupcakes” and “Hocus Pocus Cookies.” Then, in honor of the birthday girl’s age, grape soda pop, coined as Magic Potion #6! To complete the look, I whipped up some cute paper flags and attached them to paper straws! I purchased a large panel of coordinating purple fabric at a nearby home décor store to serve as the backdrop for this magical dessert table. And my fabulous friend, Lori Holley of Special Arrangements Florist, crafted a beautiful “K” initial out of white carnations that was hung in the center. All of the adorable shaped dessert table tags, place cards, and favor tags were made by another fabulous friend using her Silhouette machine!

Music

As is the tradition with all of my daughter’s parties, a special iPod playlist  was created…this year, of course magic themed music was played!  The song list included popular tunes such as “Abracadabra”, “Do You Believe in Magic”, “Every Little Thing She Does is Magic”, “Magic” (both the Cars version and the Olivia Newton John version) to name a few!

Favors

As the party wrapped up and the guests departed, they were sent on their way with a fun silver take-out box filled with “magic ink,” magic-themed tattoos, purple Pop Rocks candy, and their own magic coin trick! And for a bit of added fun, they also got their very own can of chevron paper-wrapped Silly String (deliberately NOT passed out until they were leaving the party! Hee! Hee!)

All in all, it was a most memorable and VERY magical day full of family & friends that will always be treasured!

What a wonderful party! Where the hats ‘kids’ sized or adult sized. I can’t seem to find a kid size on oriental trading

What a great looking party! I love all of the decor and the cake and snacks look amazing! Magic show parties are great because you don’t have a lot to worry about once the party starts. Your magician takes care of all the entertainment.
