Flamingo Fiesta Girls Night In {Part 2: Crafting & Desserts}
In continuation of today’s Flamingo Fiesta Part 1 post, here we go with Part 2: Crafting and Desserts!
Just like the margarita bar and dinner table from Part 1, the dessert table features playful flamingo-inspired colors and elements + an ample dose of sparkle. The treats were simple and easy: homemade watermelon cupcakes + grocery store goodies that were given a little creative presentation. (Example: a freezer-section key lime pie was cut into mini squares for a modern “small bites” look, then garnished with quarters of lime!)

COCKTAILS + CRAFTING
I also set up a craft table with “ingredients” for guests to make their own set of ceramic tile drink coasters, which tie in well to the cocktail theme of the night. Added bonus: the plain white tiles used for the coasters were only .13 each!
The original plan was to focus on decoupaging them with patterned paper, but I got sidetracked by my washi tape bin and ended up loving that idea even more!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Red velvet & marbled cake shooters served in disposable “cheers” themed shot glasses
- Bright pink, accessorized flamingo + simple feather garland & pink honeycomb wall backdrop
- Cupcake toppers made from flamingo themed stir sticks + paper party circles
- Pink toothbrush-holders-turned-craft-supply-holders, embellished with a metallic gold Y-A-Y!
- Mini notebook party favors (only $1 for 3!) dressed up with favor tags & baker’s twine
If you’re looking for a simple craft project, this one is great! I set out decorative papers, paint pens, washi tape, and gold decals, but really fell in love with the ease of the washi tape myself. Simply wrap the tape around a ceramic tile until completely (or almost completely) covered.
You can also add metallic embellishments or stickers for an extra layer of detail before sealing.
The bottom of the coaster can be messy, because you will cover it with a square of felt once the decoupage on your top design is dry. (P.S. I also tested this project out using brighter colors of washi tape + a gold sticker for a multistripe monogram look and loved that one too!)
DESSERTS
- As I mentioned earlier, the desserts were quick and easy. They were also inspired by the flavors of summer! Sonny and i made watermelon cupcakes (from a boxed mix), then I picked up a frozen key lime pie and some coconut macaroons from my local grocery store.
- The macaroons needed a little jazzing up, so I covered the tops with Orange Dreamsicle Sprinkles (picked up at Michaels), which also added a helpful bit of crunch.
- The key lime pie was cut into mini squares for more of a “small bites” look that works well on dessert tables, and lime wheels were quartered to give them a cocktail-inspired garnish.
- My grocery also sells oversize slices of fancier cake, so I picked up a red velvet and marbled cake slice and used them to fill mini paper “cheers, my dears!” cups from Sucre Shop. Voila… cake shooters! ;)
DESSERT TABLE DECOR
- A black and white table runner (created from Ikea fabric) set the foundation for the table and coordinated well with the black and white stripes in the printables. Nesting wall shelves were used to display decorated “YAY” letters that were covered partway with patterned paper and partway with gold glitter.
- The star of the dessert table decor was a big pink lawn flamingo. Even though she started out mostly pink, I spray painted her all one shade for a more modern, monochromatic look. In addition to the long necklace adorned with a sparkly bead “bauble”, mini gold styrofoam balls were used to make a “chunky necklace” for her, and we couldn’t forget the flower hair clip, of course! ;)
- A DIY feather and washi tape garland was also strung in the background, and paper honeycomb balls were opened into a half-circle and attached to the wall with glue dots. To make the two-tone feathers for the garland, I covered half of each feather with a piece of cardstock (held at an angle) and gave the uncovered portion a quick spray of metallic gold paint.
CRAFT TABLE
- A cute printed sheet was used as the “tablecloth” on the crafting table. This is one of my favorite tricks for finding cute & inexpensive “table linens” in a pinch! (Matching napkins and vase embellishments were created from the coordinating fitted sheet.)
- Three pink & white toothbrush holders from Ikea were embellished with metallic gold stickers to read “YAY” and used to hold some of the longer craft supplies like paint brushes, pens, and scissors. I also picked up a coordinating “soap dish” to hold the washi tape.
- Sets of 4 ceramic tiles were placed at each guest chair. I found the tiles at Home Depot for only .13 each! Other craft supplies offered for decorating: patterned papers, tacky glue, decoupage glue, gold paint pens, metallic gold monogram stickers, and metallic decals by Martha Stewart. You can also use photos or printed quotes to further customize this project… skies the limit!
PARTY FAVORS
While party favors aren’t necessary, if you can find something cute & inexpensive, they are always great for sweet send-offs. I found these super cute foil-stamped mini notepads in the dollar bins at Michaels – only $1 of 3 of them! A little black & white baker’s twine + themed favor tags, and they fit right into the theme.
That’s a wrap for Flamingo Fiesta Part 2! And if you haven’t checked out Part 1 yet, click here to check it out now. (Sneak peek below.)
