PARTY DETAILS, as told by Jaime

I chose a fun, colorful monster theme for my son, Benjamin’s, 1st birthday. Once I picked the orange, teal, lime green and navy color palette, it was on! My dear friend and co-worker, Bevin Calnan, designed the 4 vibrant monsters that set the tone for the entire party. I decided to incorporate a chevron pattern to make it modern and more graphic. I added googely eyes to everything and anythingI could. We had tacos, monsters cupcakes and a make your own monster mask station- fun was had by all!

Monster

Designed by Bevin Calnan. I had two large 8′ long free-standing monster cut outs. One to greet the guests at the front door and one in the backyard for photo ops. It was the perfect back drop for singing happy birthday.

Invite

I designed this myself. Instead of gifts, we requested guests make donations to the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society in honor of my late Mother, Cookie.

Dessert Table

I did most of the leg work here… I wrapped a lot of styrofoam with custom chevron printed paper and then wrapped the sides with brigh orange or green monster fur to create height. The navy cake stands were DIY – I bought plates at the .99 cent store and wooden candle sticks from Michael’s. My husband spray painted the candle sticks and then I epoxyed the plates to them. I also spray painted styrofoam balls and sat them in plastic martini glasses on top of styrofoam squares – I wanted Ben’s name to be the focal point and add height. All of the trays and stand were lined with chevron paper.

I hired Sweet Details to create the monster cake and monster eye cake pops, which were inspired by this. The monster cupcake idea came from here. They also took the 4 monster designs and printed them onto sugar cookies. I made the pretzel rods and rice krispie treats by dunking them into melted colored candy. I also filled mini milk bottles with milk and added striped paper straws and custom drink flags and bottle wraps – RAWR!

Food

We hired a taco caterer, which was fabulous. I also set up a Mini Monster Munchies table for the younger kids. We had fruit packets, all sorts of munchies and pasta.

Centerpiece

I bought 36″ troughs from OSH, spray painted them and then wrapped them in fur. I bought wheat grass from the flower mart and cut sections to fit into the troughs. LJ Events created the adorable pinwheels!

Banners

Both the Happy Birthday Ben and RAWR banners were designed by LJ Events. LOVE!

Favors

Leigh from LJ Events, created the adorable tag and wrapped the favors in chevron printed bags with orange cord. The children got small plush monster and monster bubbles to take home.
