PARTY DETAILS, as told by Tanya & Stefanie

“What is a couple planning their nuptials from across the pond to do when wedding bells ring? Have a fabulously festive affair that imbues a few notes of home, of course!  Welcome to our British Invasion Bridal Bunch.

INSPIRATION

Inspired by the lines and colors of the Union Jack flag, this event was styled in tones of reds and blues against a beautifully simple white  space. To signify the meeting of the bride, groom and their families, a custom logo updating the traditional British flag design was tweaked with a twist – a simple hand drawn heart. This design was carried through to all the personal touches including the invitations, brunch menus, table runners, lollipops and cookies.

Fabric custom printed with the colors and logo for the event was used in the invitations, the bride’s fascinator, and on the tables to pull together the concept. To finish off the event, a couture cake along with a table of delectable sweets in the shades of the day was on display to tempt the lot.

YOU’RE INVITED…

In place of traditional paper invitations, whimsical hand sewn handkerchiefs with all of the important details were created for this event.  Fabric was provided by KarmaKraft , an online provider of custom printed fabric in a variety of materials.  After the materials were printed, squares of the invitation print as well as a red and blue striped pattern were sewn together and mailed in blue boxes to the guests.  One side featured the signature logo and all of the details of the day while the other featured a whimsical striped pattern in red and blue to give guests a little peek at what was in store for them.  The custom logo for the couple along with the all of the graphic design for the event is courtesy of Sonicstef Design.

DASHING DECOR

Far from English soil, this event was staged at Ici, a restaurant occupying a 19th century brownstone in the heart of historic Brooklyn, NY. The clean white space and beautiful architectural details make for a perfect backdrop to bring in the bright colors of the British flag.  The color scheme is striking and immediately bring a sense of English pride to the couple and their guests.

Denise Fasanello Floral Design provided the suite of flowers in rich reds, blues and violets beautifully arranged in clever vessels of all shapes and sizes that give a subtle nod to home.  A large spray of Delphiniums arranged a ceramic umbrella stand in the shape of rain boots graced the bar.  Several medium sized arrangements with artfully arranged anemones, muscari and hyacinths in red English breakfast tea tins sat perched against a collection of vintage tea cups and saucers filled with red roses.

A custom made runner with the couples signature colors and logo was rolled down the center of the table.  Simple white china and clear glassware kept with the simple beauty of the space. Red poof napkin rings and custom printed menus added just the pop of red. Finally, a sweet confection was placed at each place setting for guest to take home as a reminder of this fabulous soiree.

The bride and groom’s chairs were adorned with two special touches. First a duo of cross-stitched Queen Mother pillows sat daintily on each seat courtesy of Slipcover Your Life.  And lastly, specially painted Mr. & Mrs. Wooden plaques hung off the back of each chair courtesy of Our Hobby to Your Home.

SWEET FINISH

The couture cake – designed especially with this concept in mind by Sugar Couture – was topped with oversized dramatic red flower and gum paste feathers.  It was nearly too beautiful to cut! If the guests sweet teeth weren’t satisfied with that creation, an array of artisan crafted cookies, candies and other sweet treats were on offer.

CHEERS

What celebration could be complete without a few festive libations?  In addition to the bubbly, a custom cocktail in a rich blue and red was created to toast the couple.”

My husband is English (met him there) so I absolutely adore this table setting. We even created a Union Jack cupcake wrapper as a tribute. It would have been darling for this display. Check it out here: http://www.bellacupcakecouture.com/item_203/Cupcake-Wrappers-Union-Jack-includes-50.htm
