PARTY DETAILS as told by Amy

It is no secret that I’ve always had a love for all things Shabby, Vintage and all that’s girly! Knowing that, within a few years (probably less than I’d like to admit) I will no longer be able to dress my little girl as I please and especially throw her parties filled with over-the-top girliness, I figured no time would be better than the present!

The thought of a Shabby Chic Party was a given, but the search to make it special and unique was a little more difficult than one would expect. Last year, when styling an event for a client, I came across an organic farm in San Diego. I was immediately drawn to this place as their grounds held a really special and unique look. The most amazing detail … life size Teepees! As a stylist, I tend to find inspiration in everything that surrounds me and this place was definitely the inspiration behind our Shabby Pow wow!

I immediately contacted my friend and designer, Carrie Callaway, as she specializes in Couture costume headpieces and illustrations and our ideas just started flowing! The thought of mixing Shabby and Girly elements, mixed rose patterns, lace, pastel colors and just adding a touch of light leather and feather elements was all too exciting! And so with this, Carrie began to work on the stunning head pieces and the illustrations as I began to piece all the elements together for our Shabby Pow-Wow!

Rose print fabric was used throughout this entire setup for that shabby chic look. We ordered this gorgeous fabric in bulk in order to make runners, table skirts, fabric tutus and most importantly, to custom make our little girls Shabby Feather Tutu Dress. To add that perfect shabby detail and finishing touches to our dress we contacted Happy Annie. Annie custom designs the most amazing headpieces. She designed two stunning pieces that were also used as the finishing detail to our shabby feather tutu dress. It really tied it all together!  To add the Native American touch, we used feathers throughout the entire design. From feather garlands that hung over our sweets table, to single feathers tied on each little lunch box and favor box and, of course how could we forget, the feather layered tutu dress! We also included some dream catchers and most importantly, this Pow-wow would not be complete without our Custom made Teepee from Sugar Shacks Teepees.

For our sweets table, we were so excited to collaborate with Aracely from Minted and Vintage {Dessert Stand Rentals}. They specialize in “vintage rentals and freshly minted dessert stands”. Their collections are stunning and their service is amazing! We felt so excited to be working with them as their dessert stands were a key element to our sweets table!

As for the sweets, we wanted to really emphasize on the Teepee and feather details. We were so fortunate to work with some amazing vendors that were truly able to capture this as precisely as we hoped. Alide from La Bonne Crème designed the most stunning rose hand-painted cake for us! It included hand made roses for that shabby look as well as hand made feathers! Just stunning! Maria T. from MKR creations created the perfect Caramel Apples covered in coconut shreds alongside the adorable and most favorite of details, our Teepee ice cream cones! Inside, chocolate cake filling! In keeping with our Teepee sweets, Nicole from Bella’s Bakery made the most adorable cake pops inspired by our graphics. Not only adorable but so yummy! Our Cookies are always designed by the most talented of Cookie artists and friend, Natasha from NatSweets. We just love her artistic and amazing ability to be able to take any designs and turn it into a cookie! True Eye Candy one can enjoy and eat! We could hardly get over the hand painted details! For our personal cake, we really wanted something feminine and delicate. Our dear friend, Maegan, from Maegs Bakes Cakes designed the absolute perfect side ruffle cake! We could have not been happier with how it turned out! With the addition of our mini cake flag with little feathers on each side, it really went together perfectly! Last but not least, Debbie from Green Mountain Mini Baked added that special touch to our sweets table with her delicious oven baked mini donuts! Custom made to coordinate with our design!

Our set ups always included a dress up section for the little guests. This was a very special section to us as each mommy made their little girl’s fabric tutu! Each little tutu was hung and a tag was placed with each little girls name. In this section we also displayed our Shabby Feather Tutu dress. The design was custom made by our seamstress and oh so talented lady we like to call Ama! The little boys would not be forgotten of course as they too had a little dress up section and table of their own that included a variety of feathers and ready to be made headpieces for them to enjoy!

A themed lunch was given to each little guest. The adorable child size wooden tables included a floral runner, milk mini bottles with floral print straws and personalized lunch boxes. All with feather details! Our favorite detail and focal point was our little painted mason Jars from Making Me Events. They have the most adorable painted mason jars that can literally be used in so many different ways! Not only did we use them as vases for our kiddie table but also used them to display our hand crafted Candy Kabobs from Sweets Indeed.

It was all like a Whimsically Shabby Fairy Tale, beautifully captured by the talented Amanda from Mirage and Light!

A Special Thanks to Sony Garza, my design partner/assistant and sister, for always putting up with my oh so demanding requests and never saying no to my outlandish ideas! Without her help , many of my favorite details would not have been!
