Hello Yellow! A Summer Birthday Party
Hello, cuteness…and hello, SUMMER!! This adorable “Hello YELLOW” birthday party hosted by Kirsten Gentry of Kojo Designs is sure to arouse feelings of summer fun in the sun. There are just so many cute details to gush over starting with the fact that this party was created in honor of SIX different children with birthdays within six weeks of each other!! What a great idea to combine them into one GIANT birthday party using a theme fitting for any child…or adult for that matter.
I just love the idea of hosting a party inspired primarily on a single color selection. The creative options are essentially endless and it certainly makes finding coordinating party decor and selecting sweet treats, candies and food items a cinch! Some of my favorite design elements in this party include the hand-tied swag created using strips of fabric, the assortment of hanging jars, the lemonade station as well as the simple cupcake toppers created with a swatch of fabric tied to a toothpick.
And since there were SIX birthday honorees, all six moms of the children jumped in to create some fabulous diy elements that truly made this celebration personalized. (homemade matching dresses for the girls, matching bowties for the boys and homemade favor bags). More gorgeous images follow so be sure to keep reading for more information on all of the incredibly cute party elements as told by Kirsten. I’m certain you’ll be inspired to center your next party theme around your favorite color.
Party Details as told by Kirsten…
INSPIRATION
My son Burke and five of his best friends all have birthdays within six weeks of each other. Since we’d all have similar guest lists anyway, the five other moms and I take this opportunity to throw one, big, fabulous birthday bash for all six of them. One of the moms sewed the coordinating dresses for the girls, I made matching bow ties for the boys, one of the moms ordered a giant yellow pinata, and we all chipped in to bring food and treats (one of the dads even made a six hour playlist for the occasion). Even a rainy day couldn’t keep the 75+ guests from having a fabulous time!
PARTY DECOR
Party hats (using the Oh Happy Day tutorial), yellow fabric cupcake toppers, ruffled streamers (using the tutorial at MADE), hanging lanterns, fabric ribbon garland and backdrop, yellow tulips, homemade lemon, pineapple and mango snowcone syrups and their customized bottles, cloth drawstring favor bags.
FOOD
An entirely yellow menu including lemon chicken, curried chicken, mac ‘n cheese, lemon pasta, pineapple empanadas, fruit platter with pineapple and bananas, tortilla chips and corn dip, corn bread, corn casserole, cheese kabobs, banana pudding, and tiered yellow cake.
BEVERAGES
Lemonade bar including Strawberry Lemonade, Watermelon Lemonade, Traditional Lemonade and mix-ins like tea, berries and mint. Also, yellow sodas (Izze, Jones, La Croix), beer and wine.
FAVORS
Yellow treat buffet with lemon drops, lemon heads, yellow bubble gum, yellow jelly beans, dipped pretzels, yellow taffy, mini banana candies, mini butterfingers, reese’s, yellow donut holes, peeps, and yellow mini cupcakes.
ACTIVITIES
Bounce house, yellow pinata. Does the treat buffet count as an activity? Because it did to the party guests. =)

I’m head-over-heels in love with the lettering u used on the jars to spell “Lemonade” and for the buffet labels. Can u let me know where I can obtain that lettering as well? I want to use it in a shower im throwing next month! Its Fabulous!! great job!
My cousin and her friends sure had a great idea with this party. So proud of all of them!!
Okay I love this! I threw a lil sunshine baby shower and this decor would have been great inspiration for that party, too. Love the fabric ties on the cupcakes! Mine is here: https://diyingtobedomestic.wordpress.com/2010/09/16/my-little-sunshine/
What size jars did you use for drinking jars?
You sure have a way with all things party. Your such an inspiration.
Hi, love it, so gorgeous! Can you please tell me how you made the fabric bunting/garland?
Just found this on Pinterest. I’m doing a sunshine party for my daughter’s first birthday and think I’m going to use the ruffled streamers idea. Can I ask you a silly question? What did you use to attach all the streamers to the ceiling (where they gather in the middle and where they hit the wall)? I’m wondering if tape would be strong enough or if you had to use something like pushpins. I love how whatever you used looks well disguised. Thanks in advance!
