Holiday DIY: Mod Paper Mache Reindeer

You know those inexpensive gold paper mache reindeer that you see at all the craft & hoilday decor stores this time of year? Here’s an easy way to update them with a fresh, modern feel: spray paint + fun trims (ribbon, yarn, etc) + mod paper patterns!

These particular reindeer are from a brand new HWTM theme we just shot, where they were used as the table centerpiece. More on the full theme coming soon, but I wanted to highlight this project separately because it’s super easy and can be customized to ANY color palette and style you might be doing for your own home decor/party – from vintage to rustic to glam! I’m actually loving the idea of a vintage spin utilizing Anthropologie-like patterns & colors with lace & burlap trims.
And even if you don’t have time to bust out the spray paint or if you want to keep the reindeer gold, you can still dress them up with paper and trims to make them a little more exciting. Here’s an example sans the spray paint that was used as side table decor:

I’m a huge fan of all-white statuettes & figurines myself though, so this little guy is still my favorite!

Happy holiday crafting!

Hi Barbara –
I usually buy them at Michaels, so you might check there first – and then you’ll also find some on Amazon if you search for “paper mache deer”. Hope that helps!
