Hungry Hungry Hippo Birthday Party

Is this HUNGRY HUNGRY HIPPO Party the cuteness or what?! Designed and styled by working moms/event planners Laura & Megan of Events In The City, this classic board game inspired party is sure to delight both the kids AND the adults that fondly remember playing this game when they were kids themselves, which is why it could also be a fun theme idea for a creative baby shower!

I love the super modern and colorful spin that Laura & Megan used to bring this party to life, as well as the clever phrases & food labeling like “Hip to the POP” Popcorn Balls, “Watering Hole” bottled drinks, and “River Rock” rock candy sticks. HUNGRY for more? Good! Here we go with all of the playful images and details, starting with some seriously adorable hippo cupcakes…

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Laura & Megan…

“Being hard working moms and mainly Wedding and Special Event Designers we wanted to do something fun and different for a play date. What better than a classic board game like, Hungry Hungry Hippos! The colors, the action and the adorable hippos were too good to pass up and so it began. Of course there were four players, so we have four place settings for the kiddos to sit around and snack on ‘marbles’. The decorations were a culmination of actually pulling apart the game itself, perfect finds at Pottery Barn Kids, Home Goods, Michael’s, and some of the items we had in our prop closet.

The decorations themed around the round marbles that come with the game so you’ll see many things that pull from that shape. From the white balloons and candy, down to the glassware and funky shaped flatware. The food was again items we know our kids love and that we would have at a play date like Uncrustables and popcorn. While the amazing desserts were created by powerhouse confectionery, Fluffy Thoughts in McLean, VA (who is featured on the Food Network amongst other accolades!) The chairs, chinaware, linens, etc. were all supplied by our favorite rental company here in the metro area, DC Rental. They make most of their linens in house and are local so they have the ability to purchase specialized items that are often not found in other places.

All of our amazing paper products and signage were created my Michelle Pentecost at Intrigue Design Studio who truly took our crazy idea and ran with it! We just love the mix of these sherbet colors with the crisp white, we don’t know any kids that wouldn’t want to get their hands on this! ENJOY!”

My daughter has a hippo that she has to have when she sleeps. She is always asking “where’s hippo?’ She would LOVE this!
