Magical Genie “Make a Wish” Birthday Party
Your wish is my command! We all know that when you blow out your birthday candles, you get to make one special wish, but what if your whole party was full of wishes?! That’s what Suzanne Olvey of Fanciful Events dreamed up with this Magical Genie “Make a Wish” Birthday Party for her daughter. Featuring a unique, more feminine take on a typical Moroccan theme, light pinks and golds filled the dessert table while magical genie lamps and stars decorated the scene. That’s one party I’d certainly wish for!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- DIY painted Moroccan ikat patterned backdrop with gold stars, a genie lamp & small hanging lanterns
- Pink cake topped with a mini genie lamp & decorated with golden tassels and cascading gold stars
- Gold star topped cupcakes and meringues + ikat, genie lamp & gold glittered star cookies
- Low tablescape with floor seating & wishing star magic wands + ‘Make a Wish’ sparkling confetti filled bottles
PARTY DETAILS as told by Suzanne…
For my oldest daughter’s birthday, we decided to do a fun ‘Genie in a Lamp’ party and put our own spin on it to make it all about magical wishes and wishes coming true. We tried to stay away from the typical bright colors that Moroccan themes are known for and took a sweeter and lighter color palette approach. Our color scheme was various shades of pinks with gold and touches of mint, which made it really soft and gave it that magical touch and feeling.
After we decided on this theme, I knew I needed to have Loralee Lewis design and create the paper collection because I knew she could bring my vision to life and help me build and create this theme! Loralee created the most beautiful collection for this theme! We wanted the genie lamp to be the main focus throughout and to use our favorite moroccan elements to bring everything together.
A few of my favorite things we created were the custom harem/genie dress for my daughter, the painted Moroccan pattern backdrop, using Moroccan lanterns and tea lights, genie lamp wooden cute outs, and making a kid’s Moroccan table and the place settings! All in all, it turned out to be a magical party that granted many wishes!

Beautiful! How did you get the magic lamp on the paper plates?
Wonderful arrangements, I hope the children’s party went on to become a very nice and well-planned event. Thanks for mentioning the details of the vendors, would be handy when I host a birthday party.
