Modern Alice in Wonderland Birthday Party
Talk about feeling like a {birthday} QUEEN for the day! Sonia did an amazing job on this super colorful & modern ALICE IN WONDERLAND inspired birthday party… and although she created it especially for her adorable daughter Sophia, something tells me that the guests at this party probably felt like royalty too!
From a super stylish Mad Hatter Tea Party (provided by Enchanted Fairy Tea Parties) to playful themed treats like “White Rabbit Food“, “Eat Me” cookies, and an amazing flower-bedecked cake topped with a fondant tea pot, Sonia definitely highlighted all the key “Alice” elements. She also added a unique twist on the theme by going with a primarily bright blue, hot pink, and yellow color palette – as seen in the fabulous stationery elements, dessert table, and matching DIY decor. Speaking of which… one of my favorite details has to be the big paper mache “S” that was completely covered in homemade paper rosettes!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Sonia…
I started planning the party 2 months in advance (which in retrospect is not enough time!).
Sophia and I had attended a fairy tea party that had been done by Enchanted Fairy Tea Parties and we had loved it. They do a variety of themed tea parties. Even though Sophia knew she wanted a tea party, she’s not really into the typical tea party themes – princesses, fairies or Barbie. So I suggested Alice in Wonderland to her. After watching the movie she was totally into it!
Once we decided on a theme, I looked all over the Internet, especially etsy for paper goods, decor items, outfits, etc. I settled on WH Hostess to make me a custom invitation as I love her modern designs. I also opted for coordinating paper goods and fabric so that the party would have a cohesive feel, starting with the invites, extending to the party proper and finally the thank you cards.
I absolutely LOVED the invites and paper goods. They really set the tone for all that followed. I had Fairytale Jubilee design a dress and headband for Sophia, that coordinated with the color palette that had been set by the paper goods. The dress is beyond amazing and not too costume-like, so Sophia can wear it again. :)
Designing the dessert table was sooooo much fun!! I love mixing different colors and patterns. Polka dots and stripes are just perfect for this. Coordinated candy jar and food tags helped tie the look together. A beautiful felt banner from Taffie Wishes across the front of the table finished the look. As for the sweets, there were yummy cookies from Allyson Jane Designer Desserts, which are really works of art! Chocolate dipped Oreos from Sweeties By Kim, color coordinated candy, cupcakes, and a delicious 3 tiered cake from Cupcakes Couture with cake and cupcake toppers from Edible Details. Needless to say, it was a huge hit with the girls.
I cleared our family room of most of the furniture to make room for 1 long tea table, kind of like the Mad hatter’s table. The table runner was a custom fabric that matched the invite. This really added the extra touch. I purchased a large paper mache letter S from Joann’s and covered it with paper rosettes and hung it above the fireplace. This was time consuming, but well worth it. The room was also decorated with paper poms and tissue garlands from Pom Flair Partyware. Paper lanterns were from Luna Bazaar. The tablescape and china was provided by Enchanted Fairy Tea Parties. They also did all the outdoor/backyard decorations. They did a great job keeping the girls busy with games, face painting and crafts.
All in all, it was a really fun party to put together. My daughter and her friends had a fantastic time!
