Monster Fest! A Colorful, Modern Kids Party
You’re not only going to FREAK OUT over at the fabulous details of this MONSTER FEST themed celebration created by Stephanie of Spaceships and Laserbeams (for under $100 total!) but you might just find yourself green with envy! This theme could work for both Halloween or birthday parties and is truly is like no other monster-themed party I’ve come across…. the brilliant colors, the bold graphics, the “eyeball” catching details, and the oh-so-clever use of budget-friendly brown paper bags used as serving vessels. Yes…brown. paper. bags. WHAT?!
I especially love the ghoulishly gorgeous backdrop created for the playful dessert buffet – which is oozing with monstrous amounts of creative cakes and citrus-based delights sure to please even the most savage appetite.
BEWARE as you read on for more of the party details…you’ll more than likely be inspired to throw your own wickedly cute Monster Fest!!
PARTY DETAILS, as told by Stephanie…
Inspiration
“This party was designed to resemble a monster’s formal dining room. In terms of design, we repeated the eye/circle motif in several areas including on the napkins, the eyeballs of the monster crowns and the oranges.
We actually got the idea for some of the eyes on the monsters from Hostess with the Mostess.
Budget-friendly
At Spaceships and Laser Beams, we like to show parties that are accessible for every mom. Everything for this party can easily be accessed in a small city (I should know as I live in a city of 30,000!) and the entire budget was $100 including the desserts and printables.
We kept the costs low by using paper bags as serving vessels, finding fabric on sale, and keeping the dessert table menu in check.
Food
Snacks included a mix of everyday healthier choices like popcorn, grapes and apple slices, which are relatively inexpensive and the candy was purchased in the bulk goods section of our local grocery store.
Desserts
Catherine of Goodness Bakeshop made all the baked goods. There was an orange basil cake, the monster cakewas banana with strawberry icing and the monster cupcakes were vanilla with citrus icing.
Our Monster Fest Collection can be found in the Etsy Shop of Spaceships and Laser Beams.”

I love the cupcakes and oranges. Very nice.
So cute, creative and colorful!
Question (for anyone really) – how do you keep your apples (or what type do you buy) from browning when having them cut and sitting out for a party? Thanks!
Hi Mindy,
Unfortunately, the only way I have found to do this is to purchase them already sliced from the grocery store. They have been treated in calcium ascorbate to keep them from discoloring.
Hope this helps!
Adorable… all of it!
