Incredible Monsters University 1st Birthday Extravaganza
Gather around Scarers, because we’ve got a spook-tastic party in Monstropolis to attend! Miriam of Miriam Corona Events did an amazing job bringing this Monsters University 1st Birthday Extravaganza to life. As someone with 2 little ones obsessed with both Monsters movies myself, it’s super fun to see so many playful details from the movie come to life in party form here! Seriously — look at that cake — WOW! And if you’re looking for even more monstrous inspiration, be sure to check out this awesome site. Who else is ready to enroll in MU? ;)
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Amazingly detailed cake featuring Mike, Art & Sulley + a cool character inspired name banner
- One-eyed sour gummy monster lollipops, cleverly embellished with a {movie} ticket
- Scary hairy cupcakes, molded chocolate monsters, monster face glazed donuts & candy sushi
- Mike & Sulley inspired centerpieces & giant Mike Wazowski and ‘1’ shaped piñatas
- The cutest birthday boy high chair all decked out in Monsters University school gear
- Foods named after Mike & Sully’s Oozma Kappa frat brothers (i.e. Don Carlton’s Monster Nachos)
PARTY DETAILS as told by Miriam…
I was inspired to create a Monster Bash for my son’s 1st birthday because his birthday
is so close to Halloween. I knew I wanted the party to be a costume party and with the release of the new Disney movie, Monsters University, I imagined how fun it would be to see all of the adorable little baby monsters dressed up for the occasion! We rented out
Caterpillar Kids place, an indoor playground in La Cañada Flintridge and they provided a a fabulous kid-friendly environment! Kids activities included bubble machines, piñatas, parachute fun and of course, lots of playtime on the playground.
To kick off the Monsters University Movie Premiere extravaganza, we invited the kids to take their photo in a Monsters University inspired ticket booth and had them treat themselves to movie night snacks from the concessions stand. Concessions included all kinds of fun Monsters University inspired treats like monster munch, sour skewers, gummy eyeballs and candy sushi.
Soon after the kids activities kicked off, guests enjoyed lunch. The kids’ lunches consisted of pb&j or ham & cheese mini “M” shaped sandwiches, green grapes, crackers and juice boxes served on Monsters University trays, forks and party cups. Adults enjoyed monster greens and pizza and other inspired foods and drinks. Dessert included birthday cake, popcorn cupcakes, monster cupcakes and monster donuts. All of these sweet treats were displayed on a movie theatre inspired dessert table with personalized Movie Star cutouts. On the main kids table, we set up pom pom monster centerpieces and hard hats for keepsakes. The kids had a blast, we could barely get them to eat!
Surprise student and faculty photo ID badges were personalized for the guests and handed out to the students and faculty members to wear at the party.
My son Matteo loves to dance so my sweet sister in law put together a disc with songs from the Monsters University soundtrack, Happy Birthday and a few more of Matteo’s favorites!
Guests took home blue and green concession box party favors with theatre size Gummy Eyeballs, Fruit Snacks, Rice Krispy Treats, Lollies and 3D glasses! We also had a signature sippy cup bar for the babies and a party favor table loaded up with Monsters University school supplies including personalized pencils, pencil cases, notebooks,
crayons and coloring books.
The best part of the party was having his baby cousins, closest friends and family be there to sing him happy birthday! It was definitely a memorable event for all!
