“Nacho Ordinary” Father’s Day Party {Luchador}
For an untraditional celebration of this past Father’s Day, Michelle Stewart of Michelle’s Party Plan-It was inspired by her family’s love of comedy to create this “Nacho Ordinary” Father’s Day Party {Luchador}! Nacho Libre is one of those movies that can instantly put you in a good mood (I don’t know how anyone can resist the comedic charms of Jack Black). Combine that with authentic Mexican decor and food, and you’ve got one party that your man of the house will surely appreciate!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Luchador mask cake pops, cookies & coloring activity + tortilla chips “for the orphans”
- Gold glitter caramel apples, mustache popcorn boxes filled with pork rinds & tamales
- DIY Mexican blanket & sombrero wearing drink glasses + bright paper carnation centerpieces
- Nacho Libre photo dessert table backdrop + kid’s Nacho Libre monk & Luchador costume
PARTY DETAILS as told by Michelle…
My sons and husband love quirky comedies and “Nacho Libre” is on the top of their all-time favorite movies. To celebrate Father’s Day, my sons and I planned a Nacho Libre inspired fiesta. Complete with traditional Mexican candies, breads and iconic details from the movie, we celebrated a wonderful husband and father, Luchador style.
We had so much fun sourcing goodies for this party. We made a couple of family trips to downtown Los Angeles and local Mercados to purchase the table runners, Luchador masks, mini sombreros, puppets, paper flowers and Mexican candies. I created the backdrop and coordinating cupcake toppers and favor tags. My boys and I compiled our favorite quotes for the placemats activity I made for the kids. I made the Eagle and Egg cupcake toppers, Nacho masks and mustaches with my Cricut Explore. I also set up a little Mercado cart to display all the goodies and props.
Since everyone knows Luchadors get showered with gifts and goodies, our dessert table had a large spread of sweeties. Autumn from Autumn Lynns Chocolate Sins sent me the PERFECT Nacho Libre cake pops and Ramses Candy Apples. My friend Theresa made Nacho, Silencio and Ramses cookies. I served Pan Dulce (Mexican Sweet Bread), Mexican candies, cupcakes, cake, spicy chicharones (pork rinds) and of course the Orphan’s Chips. For dinner I made a taco and tostada bar with corn on the cob. “Get that corn outta my face!”
My boys had a blast posing and wrestling in their Luchador Masks. We watched Nacho Libre for the millionth time, ate and then ate some more, laughed and had a great time!
