PARTY DETAILS as told by Jackie

My name is Jackie and I am a former kindergarten teacher turned stay-at-home mom, so it when it comes to planning my daughter’s birthday parties, I tend to call upon my natural DIY creativity. When my oldest daughter, Alana, started dreaming of celebrating her 6th birthday with a fairy party, I immediately envisioned turning our outdoor space into an enchanted afternoon of fairy fun.

Party Inspiration & Printables

Once the theme was established, I contacted the talented Nicolle of Libby Lane Press to create a modern yet whimsical invitation that set the stage for an unforgettable celebration. My only request was to incorporate the lavender and mint green color palette while adding a pop of woodland flair. The flourish die-cut, pale gray wood patterned design with a lavender fairy silhouette embellished with glitter was the ideal mix of girly sparkle meets the enchanted outdoors. I embellished the adorable toadstool yard signs and scattered them throughout the various craft activity locations and picnic area.

Party Styling & Decor

Rather than going overboard on expensive decorations I opted to highlight the natural beauty of the outdoors. I lined the walkway leading to the back of our home with balloons and toadstool lawn signs while covering the perimeter of the pool in coordinating colored balloons. Paper Chains coordinating printable patterned paper were strung from the playhouse and trees. Tissue Poms, glitter-flocked trees, bird’s nests, butterflies and garden gnomes graced the outdoor space to further enhance the garden feel. The flower picnic blanket was placed in the garden area where prepackaged lunches awaited the guests.

Fairy Party Activities

About 20 of Alana’s kindergarten friends were invited and I knew I wanted to keep the girls busy while offering plenty of theme-based activities that could also double as party favors as well.

The girls rotated from Fairy Face Painting where they could choose their favorite fairy look that included gems, glitter and magical make-up. After perfecting their pixie look, they moved to Pixie Putt-Putt where they took their best shot on our putting green. They also had the opportunity to decorate their own fairy house using paint, stickers, glitter and gems, which doubled as a party favor as well. As the festive houses were left to dry, the guests made DIY fairy wands using dowel rods, pre-cut stars traced from recycled cardboard boxes and glitter glue. While waving their wands around the yard, they went on a Nature Scavenger Hunt for listed items that included sparkly gems, acorns, stones and various colored leaves.

Party Favors

In addition to the craft activity take-aways and embellished fairy wings, each special guest was given a Fairy Dust Necklace that Alana and I created together. Using tiny glass bottles with cork tops, we mixed white sand, purple glitter (and of course a little magic) and strung them with a coordinating ribbon to make a sweet little necklace. I printed the fairy dust printable on adhesive paper and attached it to the tiny bottle. The girls loved leaving with their own Faith, Trust and Pixie Dust to remind them of the magical time at Alana’s 6th birthday.
