PARTY DETAILS, as told by Stephanie…
When asked to style a baby shower and use a patchwork diaper bag with peace signs and flowers as my jumping off point, I knew I had my work cut out for me. I didn’t want the shower to come across as too hippy or too country. My first inclination was to somehow incorporate owls, but during my first consultation I learned that the mom-to-be HATES owls! After going away some inspiration photos I’d pulled and seeing the type of decor she chose for her home, I decided to run with a rustic Anthropologie-esque theme and incorporate the peace signs, hearts, and flowers. I even thought the tagline Peace, Love, and Baby would be cute to add to the printables. Then I realized the baby-to-be would be named Laynie, I knew Peace, Love, and Laynie had a special ring to it!
I began working with the wonderful Kim of Silly Me Designs who created a custom printable package to reflect my theme. Her work completely set the stage for the vintage non-tye-dyed look I wanted to achieve. Sharing the mother’s love for turquoise, I used the color heavily throughout the design. One of my favorite elements was the antique dresser I painted turquoise, added crystal knobs, and used as the dessert buffet. (Perk of being an event planner: The beautiful dresser is now being used in my living room as a console table!) All the pallet art floating around Pinterest inspired me to create a custom art piece with the Peace, Love, and Laynie logo to use as the backdrop for the table. As for the menu, we went with sweet comfort foods like peach cobbler shooters, mini fruit pizzas, oreo truffles (by Stacked Studio Cake Design), and pinwheels. One of the hostesses made the cake for the center of the buffet and threw in just a little tye dye.
For entertainment, guests guessed the mom’s belly circumference by cutting colored yarn to the size they believed would fit around her. I used wooden spools that my husband carved and stained for me to put the colorful yarn on. They also each wrote words of wisdom for the parents-to-be to read. We also had a onesie and bib decorating station, but I was determined that it wouldn’t be lame like some I’ve seen in the past. So I bought fun fabrics and made lots of stencils for guests to make more modern, silhouette style designs, which we displayed on a clothesline. They turned out so cute and the guests had a lot of fun!
I’d been dying to use the aqua ruffled ombre ‘Flamenco’ shower curtain from Anthropologie and I always like to provide a pretty backdrop for my clients to open gifts in front of since that’s where so many pictures are taken, so it was the perfect match! I placed two tufted chairs in a neutral shade in front of the curtain, which I had adorned with a pennant banner that said Laynie Raye, for the guests of honor to sit in.
Keeping with the peaceful theme, I made honey oatmeal facials and placed in tiny baby food jars for guests to take as a favor. Each was tied with twine and displayed in a vintage suitcase.

I love this!
LOVE this!! The chair streamers are fab! And the color scheme is awesome too – matches your blog perfectly :)
I love the idea of the theme, “Peace, Love, Laynie!” Very unique and adorable for a baby shower, esp since the symbol is baby feet.
