Kids get into all kinds of things, some more popular than others (I’m looking at you, Frozen), so I’m always pleasantly surprised to receive a theme we’ve never featured before… especially when it’s THIS full of inspirational details! Natali Alexander of Serendipity Do expertly coordinated this Pocoyo in the Park Backyard Birthday Bash with the help of the birthday boy’s mom and some truly talented vendors. With heaps of bright rainbow sprinkles, TWO flawlessly styled dessert tables & endless amounts of fun, I’d say Natali & team knocked this party WAY out of the park. ;)

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Natali…

Wow, what a party! As an event professional specializing in children’s birthday parties, I never cease to be amazed at what can be created out of the host’s and my initial thoughts and ideas in the early planning stages. This party was unique in many ways — the first being the theme of this backyard bash, Pocoyo in the Park. Pocoyo is a wonderfully bright and bold children’s character originating in Europe. It is known here in the US, but I loved that it hasn’t been overdone as a party theme and provided a rare opportunity to do something character based which was new and fresh.

The other fantastic component of this party was the host’s commitment to an ongoing collaboration. I was enlisted about 4 months prior to the event, and she was a constant partner every step of the way. This was no small feat not only because she was expecting baby #2 just 10 days prior to the event, but also because the party was pretty elaborate with multiple vendors and many moving parts. And, we both have a sincere and dedicated eye for detail. SO MANY WONDERFUL DETAILS!! The characters and our bright rainbow palette were worked into every aspect of this outdoor bash, down to the custom throw pillows in our tented lounge area which were hand-made to match the theme.

The theme seemed to scream for LOTS of bright beautiful balloons, I even incorporated them into the design of both dessert displays in the form of a rainbow arch and giant floating clouds! We really wanted the aesthetic to communicate a young boy’s 3rd birthday party, but also to be polished and well executed, which required a lot of communication on design and the styling of every detail.

We had not one, but TWO sweets tables, the first one I designed to display a variety of custom character and park themed goodies, including the AMAZING custom cake from A Wish and a Whisk. Many of the display props were fabricated especially for the event to mimic the park style of the show, including donut stacking ‘trees’!

The second sweets table was primarily a candy-based display which was a collaboration between the host, myself Candybar Couture. We didn’t want to bring in a whole separate design for the second sweets table, so we worked together to create a cohesive look and feel. A real stand out on the candy display were the sweets ‘trees’ which were hand crafted by the host herself! The donut display featured a custom designed stand brought to life by our fabulous fabricator, and ‘Happy Birthday Javon’ letter donuts made for us by the great folks at California Donuts! The large characters were made of porcelain — a wonderful memento of the party for the host to have for years to come. We mixed in a selection of official licensed paper goods with a huge array of custom made items from a variety of vendors on Etsy. It was such a joy enlisting small businesses to help realize the vision!

Other notable party aspects included the B&R food truck parked in the driveway serving tasty goods such as burgers, hot dogs, fries and wings and a highly talented henna and glitter tattoo artist for the young and young at heart. The children had a blast with a selection of rented inflatables, outdoor games, trampoline and a built-in backyard basketball court.

This party was such a joy to design, style and coordinate from start to finish. A true labor of love and a great reminder why I do what I do!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by the hostess…

Our son’s 3rd birthday party was a blast. However, with our second son due to be born only 10 days before, we certainly needed an organized and amazing party planner to help bring our vision to life! Natali from Serendipity Do fit the bill. Throughout the planning process, she demonstrated immaculate design style, a great care factor and remarkable talent. Combined with endless energy, she possessed all the qualities and skills required to orchestrate a memorable and highly stylized kids party.

Our son chose a Pocoyo theme, as he loves the characters from the TV cartoon, so we adapted it to a “Pocoyo in the Park” theme as we decided to throw the party in our own backyard.

Amazing balloon bouquets and signage welcomed all the guests at the entrance. A white tent was set up and all of the furniture was kept white with pops of color. Custom-made Pocoyo cushions were scattered on the chaise chairs & a colorful playmat for babies added color and functionality to the space. The pool was decorated with pretty lollipop balloons and various games including mini golf, fun mirrors and jumpers, which were great for kids of all ages.

The color palette used was lush greens and bright rainbow colors. Pocoyo colors are the rainbow colors in backward order so this lent itself wonderfully to a perfect blend of park fun and party feel. Guests were treated to an interactive Food Truck experience which served tacos, burgers, hot dogs, chicken wings and fries. A drink station styled with party favors kept adults well hydrated and children nicely entertained. Pocoyo hats, pocoyo favor boxes and take home drink bottles tagged with pocoyo themed custom thank you labels were gifted to all the kids.

What’s better than one sweet bar? Two sweet bars of course! We had one candy bar with custom candy trees and another table that was all things dessert, including irresistible donuts. The tri level yummy Pocoyo cake was a masterpiece and another nod to the park theme with various playground activities displayed and superb Pocoyo characters created in fondant.

Lots of activities including glitter tattoos, face painting and henna for the adults kept guests of all ages happy.

Our son’s birthday was celebrated with our closest family and friends and was certainly filled with loads of fun, good food and valued company. Best of all, our son was overjoyed with all the Pocoyo styling; the smile on his face when he saw all the details made the day all the more sweeter.

Happy Birthday Javon! Mummy and daddy and baby brother love you. You make everyday much happier and brighter.
