PARTY DETAILS, as told by Rachel…
Pinwheels in pink and green was the perfect theme for this sweet four year old’s birthday! Our goal was to create a festive party that could be easily replicated. Pinwheels are simple to construct from card stock–most of the decor can be made with items you can pick up at a craft store. Add to that a set of printables, and you have a party that can be put together quickly and on a budget, and still make a big impact.
The dessert table greeted guests as they walked in. We tried to keep the sweets bright and twirly. Whirly pops, licorice sticks and spinning sugar cookies reminded the guests that it was time to SPIN! I was delighted with the way the fondant toppers and sugar cookies turned out–they were the perfect colors and the perfect way to incorporate a few more pinwheels! Circles punched out of glittery paper covered the table and large paper medallions made up our backdrop. Paper medallions are a cheap and easy way to add a ton of color and cover a lot of space.
Once we started making pinwheels, we had a hard time stopping! We used them to dress up our coloring wall (a HUGE hit with the preschool crowd!) as wall decor behind the lunch table and as centerpieces. A circle garland (made by punching out circles and sewing them together in a long chain) is another quick and easy project. We used them to dress up the walls around the dessert table and as a part of our table runner. They are so versatile–lots of great uses for them!
The lunch table was set with gorgeous pink hydrangeas, more pinwheels and my favorite touch–a pinwheel melamine plate customized for the birthday girl! The small pinwheels on the silverware wraps and straws were made with the coordinating paper from the printable pack.
Guests took home a delicious sugar cookie and pinwheel hair bow, as well as a pinwheel coloring page!
