Maria of Amy abbott Events threw her friend Gloria (the “Queen of Cabo” as she calls her!) an incredible Mexican Inspired 50th Birthday Party! Rich in culture, colors and gorgeous flora and fauna inspired by the old Mexican film “La Cucaracha”, this was the party of the year! From the eclectic tequila bar to the numerous seating options and lively music there, I’m feeling so inspired to host an outdoor celebration! (Cinco de Mayo at my house anyone?) :)

THEME

This was the party of the year in our small town!  I had so much fun designing this super fun 50th birthday bash party for one of my dearest friends Gloria Greene, I myself call her the Queen of Cabo!  Flora Farms is my FAVORITE venue in the area for any kind of event.  Gloria and I discussed her theme, she wanted to do Mexican.  So we went with Cinema de Oro Mexicana, Old Mexican movies and Based the decor on an old Mexican Film “The Cucuracha”.

With the help of rentals from Del Cabo Events and my friend and extarordinary florist Pina Hernandez and gorgeous photos from Sara Richardson, we created a dream party.  I LOVED everything about this party.  Everything was custom made.  So many details.  We started at the Cantina and made our way through town and then to the lounge.

DECOR

The 250+ guests entered through a gorgeous horseshoe arch made of custom made paper flowers sent in from Mexico City and walked a lit up path of papel picado luminaries until they reached La Cantina.  The Cantina overlooked the pond with a Custom Chalupa “La Gloria” like those in Xochimilco.  It was filled with gorgeous flowers and custom painted.  We had a second Chalupa set up out of the water as a photo op!  I also had a huge 3 meter poster of “La Cincuentona” which means 50 year old.  It was my version of a famous movie poster from the movie “La Cucuracha”.  The triple length bar was also a main focal point that was custom made with a tarnished mirror backdrop like a cantina.

Guests were welcomed by the Trio Mexico en su Piel led by the gorgeous Sofia Karina.

Guests then head up to the party area that was inspired by a Small Mexican City Plaza.  I had custom made Papel Picado made and sent from Puebla, Mexico.  The decor was Heavy wood and eclectic Mexican Colors.

FOOD & DRINKS

We served homeade tamales, a live taco bar, Baked Potato (Papa Caliente) Station, as well as, a street hot dog cart and Churro cart.  I also brought in specialty cookies with La Cincuentona image and Cafe Flambes!  I LOVED my Bubbles and Beer Bathtub bar.  We were honored to have aour great friend from NAshville, Rick Huckaby rock the house, as well as our favorite local band, The Shamans.

So if that wasn’t enough, I set up a Cigar Lounge with a cigar roller and Tequila bar at the Altar theat has the most spectacular views.  I am obsessed with this area.  The cigars had a personalized band and had a traditional altar set up behind.  The cross was all Pina!   She killed it.  All the small details that she incorporated, a work of art.  The Tequila bar was a hit with personalized Tequileros so guests could try the different tequilas.  The area was surrounded by lounge and Mexican crafted pillows and of course a Firepit!

This party was a gift to me.  I had the most fun ever styling and working with such creative colaboraters that I am proud to call my friends.  And Gloria, you are the Queen of Cabo with a heart of gold.  xoxo

I think this is one of the coolest (and most colorful!) birthday party themes I’ve ever seen! The Queen of Cabo seems to be having so much fun and the Mexican flowers as the entry way as well as in the boat/cart found in the pond are the perfect touch! Inspiring and so fun, great post!
