REAL PARTIES: Darling Bow-Tie Baby Shower

Bow Tie Boy Baby Shower Ideas

Get ready for a serious dose of adorable… because this Bow-Tie themed baby shower thrown for Jesi Haack & her new little man is exactly that! Bow-ties adorned everything from mason jars and flower arrangements to the darling ruffle cake, sugar cookies, and stationery. I think my personal favorite detail has to be the ultra creative “bow tie” party garland fashioned from diapers & ribbon though!

Read on for LOTS more inspiring pictures, plus all the creative party details – as explained by one of the party hostesses – the lovely Courtney of Joyful Weddings & Events…

Bow Tie Boy Baby Shower Ideas

“For Jesi’s baby shower, we (me, Carissa of JL Designs & Melody of Sweet & Saucy Shop) decided to celebrate her new little man by having a bow-tie themed party. Posh Paperie‘s invitations set the tone for the clean, cheery decor.

Guests were greeted with a little ribbon bow-tie clip I made, which everyone wore throughout the shower. Instead of a guestbook, Carissa wrote a mad lib to fill in about the baby, which was a lot of fun!

For the decor we incorporated in pops of mustard yellow, kelly green and baby blue. Carissa used a variety of white ceramic vases to keep it light and modern and filled them with an array of monobotanical arrangements using our theme colors – white pom pom dahlias (Jesi’s favorite!), white hydrangea and yellow ranunculas. Wrapped around each vase was a striped or polka dot “bow tie”, which I created using striped and polka dot ribbons in coordinating colors.

To deviate from the standard diaper cake, I created a bow-tie garland using diapers and ribbon.

For lunch, Carissa, Melody and I made light options including bow-tie pasta salad, chicken salad sandwiches with coordinating ribbon picks and tiny sized tomato basil soups.

Drinks were served in mason jars with ribbon bow-ties and striped paper straws.

Melody of Sweet & Saucy Shop created an adorable spread of desserts, including Bowtie Sugar Cookies, a Pumpkin Cake w/cinnamon cream cheese frosting & salted caramel w/ruffle buttercream & fondant bowtie, Mini Pumpkin Cupcakes w/cinnamon cream cheese frosting & salted caramel, Red Velvet Cake Lollipops, and Lemon French Macaroons!”

  20. Allyson January 20, 2011 at 10:05 pm

This is so great. Would love to do something like it for Father’s Day, but with some butched up colors for Daddy! I would love to see the size of the clips everyone wore. Do you have a photo of that? I am guessing they are just like the ones throughout the party, but didn’t know how large they would be. What a wonderful, gorgeous and stylish party, just like the guest of honor.

    • joyful weddings and events January 21, 2011 at 5:18 pm

Hi Allyson! The clips were hair clip size- a bit smaller than the ones used on the mason jars :)

  35. Shannon February 3, 2011 at 11:13 pm

Absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE this theme! I am going to try and recreate as much of this as I can for my friend’s shower in March! I can’t figure out how to tie the ribbon onto the mason jars and vases to look like the bow ties though…And is there any special trick to making the diaper garland? I hope to hear from someone! Thank you!

  36. Abbey DeHart February 5, 2011 at 2:24 pm

Hi there, I love what you did with this shower!! Can you tell me where you got the little glasses with the soup in them? Thanks!

  37. E. Marie February 11, 2011 at 5:47 pm

I love the theme and colors of this shower! I really like the green patterned napkins, where can I buy them?

  38. Melanie February 25, 2011 at 2:10 pm

Shannon, I wondered the same thing. I can’t figure out how to tie them but I just cut two pieces of ribbon, one 5.5′ and one 2.5′ I hot glued the larger piece into a loop and put a dab in the middle to form a bow. Then I hot glued the smaller piece around it for the middle. I plan to just wrap the ribbon around the vases and hot glue it tight and then to hot glue the bow ties over the edge. Then just cut the ribbons off the vases after the party. Hope that helps.

I would love more into on the mad lib!

I love the bud vases. Are those Jonathan Adler? If not, do you know where I can find them?

    • jenn s. January 19, 2012 at 7:20 am

      Hi Karen –
They’re actually from IKEA! I bought some there a couple years ago so I’m not sure if they still carry them, but if so you’re in luck because i think they were only a couple dollars each ;)

  47. Janelle May 1, 2012 at 1:32 pm

Love the mason jars! What size are they? 8 oz or 12 oz? Or do you suggest a certain size for a baby shower? Thank you!

  48. Maddie September 20, 2012 at 10:12 am
