REAL PARTIES: Kimora’s Sweet Shoppe
Today’s Real Party feature is full of such sweet, creative, and surprisingly budget-friendly details! It’s a charming Sweet Shoppe theme that Aisha Holly of Dooby Design Group created for her adorable daughter Kimora’s 4th birthday party.
From tissue poms and strawberry parfaits to a cool DIY table and mini cupcakes (made by dad!), read on for all the perfectly pink, kid-friendly details, as told by Aisha herself…
“When designing my daughter’s 4th birthday party, the most important element was creating a space for little kids, so everything was created through the eyes of a four year old. Me and my husband scouted every resource we had; family, friends and local discount stores to find specific pieces. We wanted everything to be the height of a four year old.
TABLE DESIGN
We purchased an 8ft table top from Ikea (only $14.99) to use as the main play table. My husband then used shoe racks from our closet (which were about 1ft in height) and attached them to the bottom of the table to serve as table “legs”.
Instead of chairs we opted for custom pillow seats. I went to Joann Fabrics and selected four different fabrics to make custom pillow covers. They turned out amazing, thanks to my mother-in-law! We were able to use the pillows after the party as part of her bedroom decor.
I designed custom placemats for each guests place setting and accented the table with pink carnations.
DESSERT/CANDY BUFFET
I wanted the candy/dessert buffet to have a unique look. I didn’t want to use the typical rectangle table. Plus, I wanted to keep it at the height of the kids… so I decided to create a space that resembled a kids play area. Instead of toys, though, we used candy & desserts. It turned out so pretty!
First I found a great silver and white polka dot vinyl table cloth from Ikea ($3.99). We used this as the backdrop to the buffet area. I found the Martha Stewart paper pompoms at Big Lots (only $2.48 for a pack of 6!). We used three of the 6 to add a little color to our back drop.
We then gathered small pieces of furniture we already had around the house: my daughter’s white bench (Target), my sister’s bathroom white cube (Target), one white shoe rack (Ikea) and a mirrored side table (Target) and used them as the main display furniture.
I also designed paper elements to go along with the rest of the party decor: custom candy bar wraps, labels for the take out boxes, labels for the pink sack bags ($2.99 at Michaels) and a framed buffet sign.
The candy was purchased from various local stores. (Home Goods, Target, Meijers, Walmart).
My husband made the mini cupcakes and yogurt covered pretzel sticks, and the cupcake cups and white pearl icing toppers were purchased from The Baker’s Nook.
Signature Drinks – pink lemonade and strawberry milk. I designed labels and affixed them to translucent pink cups embellished with pink straws.
Menu – Chicken Alfredo and Shrimp Alfredo
Dessert – Strawberry Parfaits
Gifts – In addition to the candy, we gave all the children a wrapped box of playdo, go fish cards and crayons.
Attire – Dress, shoes and sparkle tights (BabyGap)
Kimora had an absolute wonderful time but mom could not move the next day!! LOL, but it was all worth it! :)”

Hi,
The pink birthday party is so beautiful. Kamara is so lucky. Everythng looked perfect. I never made tags or labls, would you point me to te right direction, I am planning my daughter’s first birthday and would love to make some custom labels. Thank you.
The party was so beautiful! I had a question about the Ikea table top you purchased. Did you have to order the top or was it just something anyone could pick up at the store. I need that for my child’s playroom!! I loved all the ideas!
Love the party details! Please blur out Kimora’s family home details on that invitation shot though (address phone number etc) My heart just stopped when I saw it staring out at me. xx
Good catch, Tracy! Thanks so much for the heads up. Just modified & replaced that image (might need to refresh the page to see the updated version.
Cheers,
Jenn :)
