Lori from Paper Thread Studio sent in this adorable – and extremely chic! – Vintage Train Birthday Party that she created for her son’s 2nd birthday.

From the use of vintage suitcases to display the party favors and “train ride treats” to the ridiculously cute cupcakes topped with candy trains on chocolate tracks and handmade food flags, there are so many stylish details to admire here!

“For my son Ben’s birthday party, we knew it had to be train themed. He’s slightly obsessed with them.  Strangely, he doesn’t much enjoy the Thomas show,  so I didn’t want to do Thomas the Train, so we did a vintage train theme since he’s super into the real trains.

The first thing I found was a shirt on Etsy (by Cantaloupe Corner) that read “Choo Choo I’m 2!“, and the rest of the items were based on that concept and phrase.

I designed the invitation and printed it on grey linen cardstock. We mounted it on chipboard and then wrapped it with train fabric.

On the back there is a picture die-cut in the shape of a ticket.

The decor was the most fun to create! My husband’s DIY project was the “Ben’s Bday Crossing” signs that greeted guests as they came up our driveway.  He painted two pieces of wood and then screwed them together to mimic a train crossing sign.

We created felt koozies for the juices that had paper labels stitched on them for the purpose of identifying the drink’s owner.

I did the same for the water bottles, but with just a slight variation of design. The pens were housed in a paper mache box labeled “name your juice” or “name your water”.

The banner reads “choo choo I’m two” and is tied with coordinating felt strips and ribbon.  The same felt ties adorn simple white twinkle lights that were strung across our patio.

The favor bags were displayed in a vintage suitcase and included a train whistle and engineer’s hat for each child (found on Oriental Trading website).

On each table, we used a yellow table cloth and then I handmade a felt train track runner using strips of felt. Sunflowers in vintage mason jars provide a pop of transportation yellow throughout the party.

Since many of our guests were toddlers, we wanted the food to be kid and party friendly. We created little to-go bags filled with toddler appropriate snacks (raisins, noodles, goldfish, etc) that they could take on their train party adventure. The bags are tied with vintage-inspired train fabric and displayed in another suitcase.

A friend created these incredible cupcakes:

The trains were molded out of caramel candies and then dipped in colored chocolate. They sat atop the cupcakes on their chocolate tracks.  I stitched some cupcake flags using felt and train fabric.

The main activity of the party was a trackless train which took the kids and some adults around the neighborhood.
