Rockin’ Old School Hip Hop Dance Birthday Party
Turn up the beats and get ready to groove! Anne Kilcullen of Seedlings by Blade busted out all of her moves to create this Rockin’ Old School Hip Hop Dance Birthday Party for her son Max. With nods to 80’s & 90’s era hip hop, it’s hard not to feel nostalgic for parties like this — just look at those boomboxes! I am also totally loving the graffiti decor, especially that amazing photo booth wall. Such a fun pop of color!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Chocolate pretzel microphones & a boombox topped birthday cake + microphone photo booth props
- Mixtape signs & a custom graffiti name + ‘Raise the Roof’ backdrop banner & tape streamers
- Hat decorating activity & Pin the needle on the record game + Old School Boombox birthday shirt
PARTY DETAILS as told by Anne…
Max is celebrating his 4th birthday and wanted a dance party! To bring the theme to life, we decided to go a little “old school” and add in some boom boxes, mix tapes and graffiti. I absolutely loved the huge backdrop for the wall. We live in an apartment so we needed to utilize the space the best way we could. Using the wall as a focal point was the perfect idea and as the dance party took off, the kids had the perfect dance floor. All of the treats kept with the same theme, from the cake toppers to the microphone pretzel lollipops. My favorite piece was the custom piece of graffiti artwork created by a local artist especially for Max.
For kids activities, we had a hat decorating station with fabric markers and paint pens. Guests also played a twist on the traditional pin the tail on the donkey with “Pin the Needle on the Record” and had a blast.
Overall the kids may not have recognized the 80’s/90’s references but the parents sure did appreciate it!
