I’m loving the sporty-meets-rustic-chic style of this fun RUGBY inspired 1st Birthday Party created by Kelly from A Little Savvy Event!

Drawing inspiration from the birthday boy’s family (dad was a professional rugby player and the entire family was in New Zealand for the world cup last year) – Kelly created a fun party atmosphere complete with a makeshift “rugby field” for the kids to play on with “grandstands” fashioned from children’s chairs and beanbags! Details like framed newspaper clippings featuring the All Blacks winning the World Cup last year, an upscale tailgate menu, and creative chalkboard signage added some chic grown-up flair to this first birthday celebration.

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Kelly

“When I first met with Allyson we were trying to come up with a great theme for her son Micah’s first birthday party! We tossed around so many ideas until it hit us…RUGBY!

Allyson’s husband Nigel is from New Zealand and played professional rugby and so in our minds this was a no brainer we must do Rugby. Allyson and her family were fortunate to be in New Zealand this past October with his family when the All Blacks won World Cup… all the more reason to incorporate this into their sons First Birthday!

Some of the fun ideas and my favorites from the party were the Rugby cookies and sandwiches, water bottle favors for the kids, and of course their newspaper clippings of the New Zealand Rugby Players with their winning trophy. We also came up with this great idea to put Astro Turf down for the kids to play on and Allyson’s husband painted the field lines on it and we created grandstands out of children’s chairs and beanbags!

The food was incredible and Allyson took the time to sit down with Richard and Marc from Winery Chefs to create an upscale tailgate menu with some New Zealand elements. The food was incredible and the guest dined on meat pies, pok pok chicken wings, fish and chip tacos and spaghetti and meatball sliders! It was DELISH!

This was one fun First birthday party and a great time was had by all! I was so happy that Allyson asked me to help her design and create this special day for Micah!”

Adorable party, love all of the cute details! I’m planning a football themed party for my son, would you mind telling me where you purchased the blow-up field goal post? That would be the perfect touch! Thx!
