Slapshot Hockey Birthday Party
He shoots, he scores!! Candace McMaster of Candy and Cake Sugar Designs planned & styled this Slapshot Hockey Birthday Party for her hockey-loving son. Although weather changed their plans to have fun outdoors, mom was quick on her toes to improvise some new indoor games! Not to mention that she baked that fabulous hockey net & goalie cake herself and put together all of the decor — what a hat trick!
PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:
- Taped hockey rink dessert table backdrop + NHL player card clothespin banner
- Face mask cake pops, puck Ding Dongs + hockey stick & puck topped cupcakes
- Referee black & white striped cups & cupcake wraps + “Face off” party printables
- Lemon granita cups, chocolate hockey players & “goal” stamped wooden forks
PARTY DETAILS as told by Candace…
This March we celebrated Jadon’s seventh birthday with a hockey themed party. We had planned outdoor hockey games and activities but the weather changed things up a bit.
This winter has been the longest and coldest that I remember to date, and of course, it had to be one of the coldest days with an extreme windchill warning on the day of the party. Not fun for a game of outdoor hockey. So we had the kids play some games inside and got to warm up with some hot chocolate and some sweets to refuel. Really, I don’t think it mattered to Jadon and his friends. They all kept pretty busy and loved the indoor hockey just the same.
Again, Jadon planned out the cake design with me and had his say on the dessert table treats. He has a thing for blueberries so I made a blueberry lemon cake filled with blueberry compote.
I couldn’t find an invitation design that I really loved and requested the help of Creative Union Design to design an invitation for the party as well as a few other custom items that fit perfectly!
The guests got to bring home some hockey puck bubblegum, hockey cards, NHL stickers and a goalie mask.
