Movie Night Birthday Party - 13th Birthday & Sweet Sixteen

It’s days like today that I am so thankful for my job! Krista of Blue Eyed Yonder threw the most exquisite, vintage-glam Movie Theater Inspired 13th Birthday for her little sister, Kameryn. Everything about this party makes my heart sing! Krista was able to capture all things glamorous, girly, and fun all bundled into one quaint party.

Vintage details like the old movie projector, checker board wooden dance floor, and vintage popcorn machine set the tone of this incredibly charming party. I’m also loving the canister floral arrangement, wire laundry hamper filled with vintage quilts, vintage theater seating, and the gorgeous pink tufted couch surrounded by giant sparkly balloons! The ombre caramel apple bar full of tasty toppings was a wonderful addition, and even the s’mores ingredients were also beautifully displayed over pink tissue paper!

Everything thirteen year old deserves 13-layers of chocolate heaven and this masterpiece is no exception. The unique handmade invitation is the perfect intro to this glamours bash. Other fun details include the custom made corn-dog stand, vintage eat sign, and the condiments placed in a mini library card holder – perfect!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Krista

“I have to say, my  littlest sister’s 13th birthday party was one of the funnest parties I have ever been a part of! Girly invitations, vintage charm, sparkly giant balloons, shimmery tassels, ombre caramel apples, cozy quilts, mounds of confetti, s’mores and a 13-layer cake… I think I’ll just hit “replay” when it comes time for my birthday. The girls played charades, ate to their heart’s delight and then snuggled up for a movie under the stars – such a perfect way to celebrate 13.

Theme

With only a few short weeks of perfect Fall weather here in the South, we knew we wanted to celebrate outside with an outdoor movie. With my little sister turning 13, we decided to watch the movie “13 Going On 30”. Such a perfect pick for the occasion! We combined the rustic nature of the outdoors with some glitzy, girly sparkle and chose lots of fun, movie-style food. The party had lots of vintage touches and was filled with hand-crafted charm.

Decor

This party was packed with all things vintage and handmade. We constructed a wooden dance floor platform with a hand-painted checkerboard pattern. Twinkling lights were strung above the dance floor and pretty pink and gold tassels were draped above vintage tables that held the food for the party. The tables were also adorned with vintage movie projectors and movie reels. Vintage containers and small bud vases were filled with pink ranunculus and dahlias to add a soft, feminine touch. A luminary-lined path greeted guests and tons of tiny votives sparkled in the trees. A vintage chandelier sparkled in a small tree above a dainty gift table. A gorgeous pink, tufted couch surrounded by giant sparkly balloons gave the girls a comfortable place to hang out for pictures and while opening presents. A vintage wire laundry hamper held quilts for the girls to grab before settling in atop a hay bale for the movie. Adults loved the row of vintage theater seats and pink shabby chic coffee table which provided them a place to hang out during the movie.

Invitations

I love dreaming up unique invitations and always look for ways to add interactive elements. This special invite featured a movie screen with a custom designed “13” movie countdown, a spinning movie reel, and a ticket dispenser… oh, and lots of hearts and glitter. The movie screen was mounted on wooden dowels and even had a tiny patch of green grass. The movie reel pulled out from a sleeve on the side of the card. The reel spins, providing guests with fun details about the party. A custom designed movie ticket was tucked into a sleeve at the bottom of the card to reveal the movie they’d be watching. The serial number on the ticket was the date of the party.

Food

With this much fun packed into one party, we knew the food had to be fun too. We had corn dogs that were displayed in a custom-made wooden corn dog holder. The girls could just walk by and grab a corn dog off the stand and pick up their condiments from the small drawers of the library card catalog. We also had a vintage-styled popcorn machine that filled the air with the best “movie time” smell. For drinks, the girls had their choice of glass-bottled cokes and Izze drinks with fun grey-striped straws.

Cakes & Dessert

What better way to celebrate turning 13 than with a 13-layer chocolate cake! The cake was made by a friend of the family and sat atop a dainty pink pedestal and was adorned with hand-made pink and gold pom-pom toppers. The caramel apple bar was a huge hit and featured apples with hand-made pink ombre sticks and lots of fun toppings. To end the night, the girls gathered around the fire pit and roasted ooey, gooey s’mores. Delish!

A big thanks to Kameryn for letting me take part in her special day. Happy Birthday to the sweetest 13-year-old around!

Thanks so much for the feature! I had the most amazing time creating this party, down to the very last detail. I couldn’t have done it for a sweeter girl. She’ll be giddy to see her party on the site. :-)
