Johanna & Angela brought the ocean breeze home for Ritter’s first Surf Shack Style Beach Birthday Party! Guests dove right in to shark watch with shark fin cupcakes, fondant shark decorated sugar cookies and the great white piñata!

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Johanna…

This party was my son’s 1^st birthday. From the moment I started to plan his party I knew I wanted a fun, bright, summer theme as his birthday is in August. I transformed our house into a surf shack and everything that went along with the beach such as surfboards, beach balls, sharks, tiki huts and fishing nets. I made surfboards from foam boards I bought at Home Depot and spray painted in our color theme. The shark was incorporated in the cookies, cupcakes and piñata from The Little Piñata Shop in Houston. We had inflatable beach balls and surfboards I bought from Oriental Trading floating in the pool. We had bright color lanterns hanging inside and outside that I purchased from Just Artifacts. The Lanterns were in all different sizes and in bright colors of orange, turquoise, yellow and green.

Food & Drinks

Our surf shack menu included a build your own slider station. Instead of paper plates I bought yellow burger baskets that I lined with wax paper to have more of a beach bar feel. I purchased wooden utensils stamped with Happy Birthday from Sucre Shop on Etsy. We had drinks for adults and children. We had a bloody mary bar and beer that was personalized with labels I ordered from Party Box Design; they made labels for the beer, water bottles, candy bar, favor tags and also designed my invitation! They are amazing! We also had a Surfer’s punch that I made for the kids and Mexican Jarritos with vintage straws I purchased from The Sugar Diva.

Candy

I had so much fun with the candy bar! That was my favorite detail. I filled different size candy jars with gumballs, jelly beans, sixlets, gummy sharks and gummy O’s in our color theme. I had a friend make the happy birthday banner with yellow chevron I purchased from fabric.com and retro letters purchased from Michael’s. The cupcakes were made by another friend and they had the cutest detail of a shark fin sticking from the icing. The beach ball cake pops I ordered from Sweet Pop Shop on Etsy. The candy dishes spelling out ONE came from Brides Village and gave the candy bar the finishing touch. I got the personalized hat and shirt that my little man is wearing from Dainty Couture on Etsy. Gotta love Etsy! Oh and we can’t forget about the cookies! We had surfboard and shark sugar cookies that I purchased from Whip It Good Cookies. Erin did an amazing job on the cookies! She even wrote my son’s name on the surfboards and I didn’t even ask her too. They were too pretty to eat!
