The Look For Less: “Bitten” The Gold Trend

gold snow white inspired party

{HWTM contributor Tonya Coleman of Soireé Event Design here}, and I’m back with a “Look for Less” post where I share with you my tips on how you can have a fabulous, high-end looking party for less! Today’s post is all about the GOLD trend! Gold is everywhere—in home decor, on the runways and in party design! No need to go out and purchase lots of gold decor for your next party which can be very pricey!

My “Budget Chic” Tip to get in on this trend for less: GOLD SPRAY PAINT!

Two cans of spraypaint for $7 each totally transformed these inexpensive items into fabulous decor for less:

  • 3 artificial apples $3 (Dollar Tree)
  • 1 large artificial apple $4 (TJ Maxx)
  • Ung Drill frame $29.99 (IKEA)
  • candlesticks, metal tissue box, ice bucket $6 (flea market)
  • 8 martini glasses $8 (Dollar Tree)

See how I incorporated these inexpensive items into my party design: “Bitten” The Snow White Witch’s Lair, inspired by the glamourous and fashionable witch from the movie “Snow White & The Huntsman”. How fabulous would this be for your upcoming Halloween dinner party!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Snowy white backdrop encrusted with gold spiders and crystals
  • Custom glitzy “Bitten” handbags & accessories
  • Gold cake pops topped with shiny gold fondant apples
  • Scattered “glass” (for some added sparkle!) & apples on gold chandelier pedestal centerpieces

Theme

After seeing the movie, “Snow White & the Huntsman” I was inspired by how fabulous and glamourous Charlize Theron was as the witch! Outfit after outfit was more and more couture and gorgeous! I knew right away that for my Halloween party design this year, I wanted to incorporate couture fashion in my design and do a glammed up Halloween dinner party.

The apple is an iconic element to the Snow White story, so I glammed it up with gold spraypaint and used it as my main design element. To keep with the creepy couture theme, I incorporated gold spiders and lots of sparkle and bling!

Accessories

A witch of this caliber would definitely have one-of-a-kind couture accessories, so I called on my girl, Jessica Ruiz from Nevaeh’s Baby Couture Boutique to custom design “Bitten” handbags and accessories to match the theme! How fabulous are her designs and your friends will think you are a rock star when they realize that not only are they gorgeous decor for the party, but are also party favors for each guest!

Tabletop

For the dining tables, I used gold bling spiders as napkin rings and a furry throw blanket as the table linen to give the table a soft, snowy look and feel. One of my signature “cupcake martinis” was placed at each placesetting topped with a golden fondant flower by Danielle’s Desserts.

The martini glass stems were spraypainted gold (a tip I got from J. At Your Service… thanks Jeanette!) and adorned with a crystal bling flower that matched the white bling branches used in the table’s centerpieces. Golden apples perched on gold candlestick holders with crystals completed the glam look.

Dessert Table & Drink Bar

On the sweets bar, the popular IKEA Tolsby frame got a gold spraypaint makeover and looked perfect perched in front of the furry bling backdrop adorned with lots of gold spiders.

I wanted to bring a boutique look to the sweets bar so I used acrylic cases to hold the treats and accessories. Some of the cases were perched on top of crystal candlesticks and adhered with glue dots to give it some fabulousness!

The sweet treats were all glammed up to resemble little pieces of jewelry like the gold fondant bitten apples by Lynlee’s Petite Cakes and perched on top of sparkly gold cakepops made by Danielle’s Desserts. How fabulously glam do the doughnuts look with these golden ornate apple gumpaste toppers from KupcakeSpot on top. I asked my local doughnut shop to ice these white and put lots of coconut flakes on them to resemble snow.

To keep the theme going, create a Drink Bar complete with gold ornate ice bucket, gold stemmed martini glasses with gold spiders. I also displayed a couture bib necklace here as well.

Hi Tonya. Can you please tell me what type of paint you used for your Ung Drill Ikea frame? It looks lovely, not all gold painted ones I’ve seen are as nice as yours :)
