Today, it’s going to get REAL serious! As you may know, family pictures are one of my specialties (if you’d like to get some ideas and inspiration, check out my Facebook page, right here). I adore family sessions and the stunning images they create. I do my best to curate a touching family story told through pictures, that my familes can hang on their walls, and smile at forever.

However, there are some of you that haven’t taken the time to round up the troops, and smile together! So here we go, the top five reasons why this is the year for family pictures!

1. Kids change FAST, and will never be this age again.
You know what I mean, you’re looking back at iPhone pictures from a year ago, thinking how different your babies look already! Time will only continue to speed past you. So get together and have a professional bring out the best in everyone, so you can look back and remember everyone how they once were.

2. There will NEVER be a perfect time for pictures.
Yes, I know that you want to lose the baby weight. And I understand that it is an investment. I get that finding the perfect outfit is important. But you guys, none of this is more important than pictures of you and your beautiful family, together. Don’t put it off, because time will pass you by, and you’ll keep using these same excuses forever.

3. You will never regret this investment.
I completely understand that custom photography can get pricey. But there will never be a day that goes by where you walk past the large canvas on your wall, and regret purchasing it. Instead, every time you walk past that canvas, you will smile. Unlike iPads, TVs, and other technology, pictures are something that will actually last forever.

4. Pictures freeze the moments that your mind will eventually forget.
Look, we’re all human. Our minds hold too many memories to guarantee we’ll account for them all. Pictures do the hard work for us. When you look at the pictures from your session ten years from now, your mind will take you back to the smell in the air the day of the shoot. Or how much your whole family laughed together. They will remind you what that hug from your four year old felt like. Don’t let those moments slip away.

5. This is your opportunity to be IN the pictures WITH your family.
I know you just gave this one a little smirk. Because you know it’s true. YOU are the ones taking all of the pictures and often forget to actually be in them. But guess what, your kids want to see pictures WITH you. I promise they do. How much do you value that picture of you and your mother when you were a little girl? Give those warm feelings to your children. In order to do it though, you must be in the pictures, and now is your chance!
