Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with the “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about the hot new trend — Monster High Parties. Have you heard of Monster High? If not, I’m sure your little girls know them all too well. They are the hot new trend right now for kids & tweens with collections of dolls, dress up items, party goods, cartoon series and movies. The latest DVD release is a “Clawsome Double Feature” Fright On! and Escape from Skull Shores which my daughter, Riley, watches almost every day, so it wasn’t hard to guess that she would choose a Monster High Party as the theme for our end of the summer party!

Be sure to scroll down to the end of this post to find out how you can ENTER TO WIN your own Monster High Gift Pack including an Operetta Monster High Doll, DVD and more!

Monster High Spectra Doll

When coming up with a design plan for the party, Riley requested it be designed around her favorite Monster High doll, Draculaura, so the color palette was easy — hot pink, black and white based on the doll’s coloring and outfit. I also worked in my spin on the signature Monster High argyle pattern with this gorgeous table runner and bunting from Cupcake With Character. Riley’s favorite Draculaura doll right now is from the “Dead Tired” collection where she is wearing pajamas, so we decided on a Monster High Sleepover party complete with a screening of her favorite Monster High DVD movie, dress up and games.

Monster High Movie & Dinner

We kicked off the party with dinner and a screening of the Monster High movie to set the tone and get the girls in the mood for all the Monster High activities to come. The girls popped their own PopSecret microwave popcorn, which I gave to them in these super cute Monster High popcorn boxes, and helped themselves to “Draculaura” blood punch (fruit punch) which was super funny to Riley and her friends because Draculaura actually hates blood! While they watched the movie and munched on the popcorn, the pizza arrived and they moved to a table I setup close to the TV so they could continue to watch the movie while they ate pizza.

Monster High Ghoul Glam Bar

The “Ghoul Glam” Bar was stocked with lots of dress up items for each guest including a black tutu, headband, bracelet, striped leg warmers and pink spider hair bows displayed on these fabulous Sequin Sparkle Sticks from Made by a Princess. Each guest had her own case full of these goodies to dress up in for the party and to take home including Draculara makeup kits! They LOVED this.

Once they were all dolled up they could take pictures with the Draculaura standups and these cute fang lips photo props!

Monster High Party Mystery Box

This activity was SO MUCH FUN and super easy to do. Since Monster High characters are monsters, I thought it would be fun to do a creepy activity called Mystery Boxes where I filled buckets with items that have a texture similar to what’s inside the boxes (like silly string balls for Brains and rice for Fangs). The goal is to see which gets the best reaction from your guests when they stick their hands inside the box! Lagoona’s Fish Eyes were actually peeled cold grapes! That one got the most “EWWWWS!”

Monster High Sweets Table

Since the guest list was small, I only placed a small amount of loose candy in bowls and included favors on the table to help fill it up like these Monster High Sticker books. The Draculaura fang candy kabobs by Sweets Indeed and the signature Monster High skullette bow cookies by Carabella Creations by Shauna were so fabulous they actually added to the decor of the table! How fabulous is that black sequin table cloth and black wood stands by Hello My Sweet? They make a gorgeous display for the cupcakes.

Monster High Sleepover Cookies & Milk Bar

To end the night, the girls all got into their pajamas, enjoyed some milk and cookies while I read to them a few chapters of Riley’s Monster High book. This spurred the girls’ imaginations so I encouraged them to imagine what happens next and when I left them for the night snuggled in their sleeping bags, I could hear them telling their own stories of what happened next!
