PARTY DETAILS, as told by Helen

HARRY’S STORY

Harry’s story is that of a very special one, Harry lives with an extreamly rare condition called Microcephaly with Simplified Gyri Patterns which affects his growth and development. Harry’s mum does an amazing job caring for Harry and his needs as well as raising much needed funds to research this very rare condition Harry lives with every day. Harry is doing very well and is a happy and active boy however with all undocumented conditions, the future is unknown and each birthday is celebrated to the fullest!!

THEME & PAPERIE

When Harry’s mum asked me to create Harry’s party she suggested a well suited theme, air planes as that is Harry’s passion, as well as the color yellow.  We went for a vintage feel and incorporated shades of brown, blues and white. I wanted to include vintage world maps, a world globe and vintage suitcases.  With these in mind I contacted Li-Ann from Ham & Pea, Design and Paperie to design all paperie including the invitation. Li-Ann always finds artistic and imaginative ways to impress, her work is just divine.

DESSERT TABLE

The dessert table was to cater to the tastes of both children and adults, my objective was to blend the two together including children’s favourites like jelly beans, cupcakes and cake pops as well as the adults with macarons, chocolate malt balls and mini baked cheesecakes. My wonderful photographer Fiona from The Garage Studio by Fiona Handbury not only snapped all these beautiful pictures but also found my vintage plane blueprint backdrop, with this in hand as well as a travel trunk from Harry’s heritage, nothing could have stopped me!

Harry’s cake was a decedent Chocolate mud and featured paper rosettes. I made these paper rosettes to help flow the colours through the table and whole event, they added that extra pop of colour and detail. Harry’s parents offered me to use their beautiful white cake stands which were given to them as a wedding gift.  Another detail which was used throughout was the vintage world maps. We used them also for bunting on the dessert table and the drinks station.

TABLES

I am such a huge fan of children’s table and chairs at parties. They all sit down together and eat their meals with excitement. I couldn’t resist offering these little blue ghost chairs from Littlechair to Harry’s mum.  Belinda offered such amazing service and we were able to hire the tables and linen as well as the beautiful chairs. Belinda also offers a delivery option too, if you’re too run off your feet. Each child was presented with a cutlery pocket, hand made by Harry’s mum out of vintage world maps, which held the cutlery and napkin. A little glass milk bottle was also placed empty for the children to fill themselves at the drink station with the extra added detail of a luggage tag with Harry’s name.

The ‘In-Flight’ trolley helped keep in the theme of the party as well as offering guests custom snack sized savory nibbles, water bottles and chocolate bars.

I really do highly recommend hiring a photographer for your very special parties. Fiona from The garage studio by Fiona Handbury not only captured all the details in the party but she also captured the memories of such a special day for the family to look back on in the future.
