Vintage Vespa Scooter Inspired Birthday Party

vintage vespa scooter party dessert table

Kim (of Etsy shop On Purpose) used one of my favorite color palettes – orange, lime green & aqua – for her son’s adorable, retro-mod Vintage Vespa Scooter Party. This is one of those parties where I just LOVE every little detail – especially the DIY cake stands & homemade prints with their nostalgic flair! Also smitten with the cool rolled book page wreath embellished with a mini fabric bunting. I’m actually not sure if the wreath is part of the party decor or Kim’s everyday decor, but either way it’s awesome! ;)

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Bunting on the dessert table (using the fabric inspiration!)
  • Crayon rolls + CD’s as “Favors for the Road”
  • Homemade fabric welcome sign & an adorable matching birthday boy outfit!
  • A super cute scooter cake and bento box style lunches

PARTY DETAILS, as told by Kim…

Theme

My son’s second birthday was in April and I based his party off of the fabric I used for his nursery bedding, the Echino Scooter Print in teal, orange and green. I used the colors teal, green and orange throughout the party and used Vespa scooters as my graphic focus.

Food

  • I did kids’ plates with PB&J sammies, Veggie fries, carrots and homemade ranch dip and mixed fruit.
  • For the adults, we had green salad cups and a toppings *bar*, chicken salad with crackers, mixed fruit, and a tomato, spinach, orzo salad.
  • For the dessert table, we had a cake, cupcakes and marshmallow pops. Beverages were water and HonestKids Lemonade pouches.

Favors

Favors were hand made crayon rolls and CDs with fun kids’ music. My best friend, Ashley Smith helped me tremendously. She made the CDs and did the cover art for them.

The kids just played outside and we had a photo booth where they could get their photo taken.

Decor

I made bunting from the scooter fabric for the dessert table and the photo booth. I made a banner for the front door as well. I painted the canvases behind the backdrop for the cake table, and used a paint drop cloth as the fabric backdrop. I made the cake stands from candle sticks that I painted and then glued plates to. I also made a John John for Owen using the scooter fabric. The “Keep Calm and Scoot On” prints were a hit.

I just wanted to say thank you for your blog! Your ideas are so inspiring and it’s always a nice break from my work day to check out your latest party. I did a Vespa Scooter Party for my son’s 1st birthday after seeing this post. I loved using the theme and color scheme and coming up with my own twist on it. I think it turned out adorable, and I had so much fun doing it! Thank you again!
