Zebra and Zinnia Garden Birthday Party

This pink & green “Zebra & Zinnia Garden Party” by ALM of Her Royal Heinous, The Queen Bee is, in a word… CHARMING! I love the unexpected pairing and alliteration of zebra stripes with zinnia flowers… unlikely elements that were together beautifully with smart use of color and pattern. And the homemade cake looks amazing dressed up with wafer butterflies! {Impressive AND easy… gotta love that!}

PARTY DETAILS, as told by ALM

INSPIRATION
The inspiration for this party came from a fabric remnant found at Hobby Lobby. Emily loved the bright green color and it was enough to make a tablecloth for a small table in her daughter’s room. The hydrangeas were in full bloom at Emily’s house and we were dying to use them as a backdrop. I came up with the Zinnia aspect, and the Zebra and Zinnias collection/party was born!

Emily designed the entire collateral collection which includes the invitation and matching address label, party circles, hat, table tents, banners, straw slip ons, cupcake wrappers, etc. Everything is pink, green and white with a great summer feel and embellished with pearls for a ‘lady like’ touch.

We served pink lemonade with lemons and limes, sugar cookies and rice krispy treats decorated with royal icing flowers purchased from Mochasof, chocolate, key lime and berry cupcakes from Target and Little Debbietulip cakes placed on candy sticks. The main cake was vanilla and decorated with wafer thin pink and green butterflies purchased from Sugar and Stripes Co. Emily made the cake because her daughter is allergic to egg, which makes it difficult to purchase sweets from bakeries and stores. Using the butterflies and flowers is the perfect example of how you can easily dress up a home made or store bought cake into a party perfect show piece.

Each child received their own personalized melamine dinner plate that served as a place card. The plate also matched the name card on the back of the child’s chair. The wooden flatware was purchased from Shop Sweet Lulu and was wrapped in a pink napkin and sealed with a pearl embellished napkin ring. Placed on every chair was a party hat and a favor bag filled with strawberry woppers. Each child also received a small ‘grow your own zinnia kit’ in pink, of course.

Even in the Louisiana heat the choice of sweets held up and the girls had a great time!”

    hi! I was just curious how you got the icing in the cake to look like that? I want to do a cake like this and am planning to get the butterflies on etsy too. But how do I do the icing so that it has that rough look to it?
    Thanks!
