Record Themed Baby Shower - You Spin Me Right Round

I’m so excited to share some details with you from a fun “You Spin Me Right Round, BABY” baby shower that I styled a couple weeks ago! When I was first asked to help style this party, it was right before our new website was supposed to launch and my head was already spinning at that point in time, but when one of the hostesses told me the theme they wanted to do I absolutely could NOT resist. A record themed shower?! Um… yes please. How FUN!!!

The main elements of the party were: a jewel-toned color palette, vinyl records, simple/funky/fun flower arrangements, and LOTS of custom paper details. Most of the frames, serving dishes, & vases were neutral pieces I already owned {life savers in a quick-turn party situation!}, and the rest were found in the entertaining aisle at Target…which just so happens to be filled with the perfect colors right now!

DETAILS & THEME

This was a colorful, unique baby shower featuring vintage vinyl records, fun/funky florals, contemporary patterns, and custom paper details.

DECOR

  • Modern paper patterns in the party’s color palette were printed out and used to customize a big batch of 30 vintage vinyl records purchased on ebay for $31. The customized records were used as “table runners” and also to completely cover the surface of the food & drink buffet. {They’d be super cute as hanging decor too!}
  • Simple, colorful flower arrangements featuring an interesting mix of hydrangea, aster, tinted spider mums, dianthus, and button mums were displayed in modern white vases embellished with rhinestones & hand-cut custom paper details. I found the Black Faux Diamond Ribbon at Wholesale Flowers in San Diego – what an fast/easy/affordable way to add some bling!
  • Custom 4×6 signs were displayed in double-sided Tolsby frames from Ikea.
  • Favor-sized baby bottles from Social Couture were embellished with craft rhinestones and little drink flags.
  • White candlestick holders were used to elevate modern plates and bowls on the food & dessert buffet and add height to the display.
  • Several of the decorative items on the buffet & outdoor table – including the retro-mod serving dishes, translucent drink carafes, and solar-powered table lanterns – were purchased at Target! The sequined “charger” underneath the drink carafes is actually a mini Christmas tree tableskirt that’s part of our regular holiday decor. =)
  • Plain white onesies (a staple that I personally LOVED when Macy was super tiny) were customized with decorative paper embellishments that could easily be removed after the party. The onesies were hung on the trees & plants using wooden laundry pins.

PARTY FAVORS

In keeping with the theme, we filled simple cellophane bags with some of the new Almond Joy Pieces from Hershey’s which had the perfect shade of aqua blue to tie into the party. The bags were customized with coordinating favor tags and displayed in modern rows in a melamine dish. Each guest also received a bottle of nail polish in one of the “rock star” colors displayed throughout the party… there was even black! A special glittered bottle was reserved for mom-to-be.

It would be great when doing baby shower printables if you could throw in a few extra pages in order to use the printable for both a boy and a girl or twins/multiples.

    these look great.

That’s a great idea, Kathy – and another thing “on the list”. I think it will be pretty easy to swap out a couple of the elements with the word “Boy” for “Girl” on this one, so I’ll do that as soon as possible :)

I am so in love with this! How incredibly creative- does anybody know what program is used to create all the printables?

    • jenn s. July 16, 2011 at 11:46 am

      Hi Christy –
I always use Adobe Photoshop to create party printables. Sometimes Illustrator too, but Photoshop is definitely my #1 program :)

Can you please tell us what Font was used in the writings?

It really is too perfect! My best friend just moved home and has less than 8 weeks to go- so I need to throw something together that’s fast, fun and affordable!

I think the whole thing and all the work you put into it is a real winner!

    • jenn s. January 4, 2012 at 12:08 pm

      Hi Melody –
The serif font is Copperplate Gothic Light and the scripty font is Sloop-ScriptOne. Thanks for the compliment – glad you like! :)
