Great Scott! It’s a bird, it’s a plane, no, it’s Supergirl! Sophia of Petite Productions saved the day with this Pink & Blue Supergirl Birthday Party for her daughter who likes a mixture of ‘boy’ and ‘girl’ things. I love how the theme is uniquely tailored to the birthday girl. One of my favorite parts of the whole look is the simple white vases filled with pink flowers on the tables combined with the bright blue pink Superman logo on the chairs — such a cool mix! Up, up and away!

PARTY HIGHLIGHTS to look out for:

  • Amazing giant balloon creations, including an awesome jet pack and Iron Man vest
  • Pink Kryptonite topped chocolate cupcakes, emblem cookies & meringue-topped mini key lime pies
  • Glittering Supergirl cake with skyline, ‘S’ shaped crayons, pink and blue stickers & bubble-filled party favors
  • Superhero bounce house + a Shaved Sno Bar (which looks super delicious!)

PARTY DETAILS as told by Sophia

My daughter Sydnie is far from your Disney princess and Barbie loving little girl. When I suggested piano lessons, she countered with wanting to play the drums. Her first bike was a Buzz Lightyear bike and not because it was a hand-me-down from a boy cousin. And for a previous birthday cake design, it was all about Optimus Prime and the Transformers. Despite this “boyish-ness” she also prefers wearing skirts and collecting pretty hair pins. So for her big number FIVE, we wanted the party theme to be a reflection of her: fun, energetic, adventurous, with a splash of feminine… resulting in our Super Sydnie party!

Decor

The initial inspiration for the party actually started with an Old Navy shirt I randomly came across. A royal blue long sleeve with an intense fuchsia logo, it pretty much spearheaded the party’s look. Pairing a crisp white with the dark blue and hot pink, I wanted these solid colors to BOLDLY stand out. The overall style bordered more towards a contemporary edge, but simultaneously still SUPER kid-friendly and charming.

While a good number of adults were present, the main area was exclusively reserved for friends of the birthday girl. Sydnie’s guests sat at kiddy-height dining tables, mixed with kiddy-sized white chiavari chairs and clear kiddy-ghost chairs. The ghost chairs displayed bright pink decals of the iconic S logo for an extra personalized touch. Napkins were treated with ribbon and a round seal with the logo as well. Floral arrangements were simple and understated but added a strong PUNCH of hot pink and fuchsia to make a statement. More logo decals were set up on the clear door panels and windows for added personalization.

Food & Treats

With a large custom banner backdrop showcasing the party logo, our sweets (and treats) display had the opposite effect of kryptonite, with guests over-anxious to absorb all its energy! Filigree Cakes created an amazing cake, which was set up PROUDLY in the center. And Kayla’s Kakes crafted custom desserts, including mini chocolate cupcakes topped with pink kryptonite rocks and logoed sugar cookies. A selection of candy in the party colors were also available for guests to enjoy. And each child was given a favor box where they could add even more goodies from the display, including personalized bubbles, crayons and stickers. To keep with the look of the party, the table was styled to look clean and sharp with minimal props in order to have the items SHINE.

Lunch was catered by Tacos Estilo Michoacan. Our family has had them at several of our parties for years and love them for their quality service, superior food presentation and great taste. We are especially in love with their tacos al pastor, where they cook the meat from a vertical rotisserie and then thinly slice it off. Yum! They also make fresh tortillas on site and all their various condiments are colorful, flavorful AND plentiful!

Southern California living does have its perks, and the skies for the party day were perfectly blue and clear. There was no better way to highlight that than our Sno Bar station. If you have never had shaved sno, you are definitely missing out! It isn’t ice cream, but it isn’t shaved ice. It’s something in the middle and it is divine! Flaky, yet smooth, and nice and cold to enjoy during the warm day!

Stationary

The inspiration came from the original superhero himself, but from stickers, seals, tags, labels, signs… Cherish Paperie creatively upgraded the look of all our paper goods to coordinate with Sydnie’s party theme. Our invitation was designed to have a comic strip quality to it and the thank you cards were a collage of photobooth images featuring each of our guests, so they could laugh and remember being silly and having fun with us!

Entertainment

I’m convinced that every kid’s party (especially for five year olds) requires a bounce house! With the extra space we had, we upgraded the bounce house to include a slide, which kept all the kids happy and sweaty! Our kiddy guests also enjoyed our balloon artist that kept them laughing non-stop with goofy tricks, and crazy creative balloon creations. And mixed with a lot of fun and dramatic superhero props, kids (along with their adult counterparts) could not stay away from the photobooth (also set at kiddy height).

I had originally told myself I would plan a party for my kids at only every five year point. Now that Sydnie’s had a taste of her own party experience (and already asking about next year), I’m not sure if I can keep that promise, but this one was definitely a memorable one and I was beyond thrilled to celebrate my little GIRL OF STEEL turning five!
