Trend Alert: My Little Pony Rainbow Party

Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with the “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about the hot new trend — My Little Pony Rainbow Party.

My Little Pony Rainbow parties are one of the hot new party themes this year. If you don’t want to have to stick with licensed character party supplies, then you have many options to make this theme your own and reflective of your child’s interests. Whenever I do character themed parties, I try to stay away from the commercial licensed party goods and instead set out to put my own spin on it by designing a unique party theme that compliments that character.

Sparkle Rainbow My Little Pony Party Theme

My daughter’s favorite pony, Rainbow Dash was the inspiration for her party this year so I knew the rainbow color palette would play a big role in her party design. She also loves sparkle and bling so I decided on a “Sparkle Rainbow” theme where my daughter (not the character) would be the star of the day. From a custom designed outfit by Nevaeh’s Baby Couture, to a huge fabulous sparkle wood cut out of her name by Ten23 Designs! Instead of buying the commercial character supplies that may not match your party’s theme or colors, have your own printable party decor designed just for you. Here, I designed my own exclusive printable collection “Sparkle Rainbow” (now available in my shop) that matched my theme and rainbow and gold color palette perfectly.

When designing a character party, one of my first rules is to find an element that is unique to the character and make that your design focal point. It could be a color, an activity, a symbol or a pattern or fabric. I went with the obvious choice: Rainbows! The problem….Rainbow parties have been done so many times, how would I make my design unique? Well, I decided to add in LOTS of sparkle and bling to my rainbow supplies. This wasn’t exactly easy to do. I knew I wanted a sparkly rainbow sequin tablecloth but couldn’t find one anywhere so I had one custom designed. I am a huge fan of the bling sparkle sticks by Made By A Princess and the bling frames, candy scoops, tongs and bling forks and spoons from Talia’s Creative Printing but they did not come in rainbow bling, so I had them custom make some for me from a roll of rainbow diamond rhinestone wrap I found at Koyal Wholesale.

Sparkle Rainbow Candy Table
I designed a Rainbow Candy Table to compliment Riley’s favorite My Little Pony— Rainbow Dash! Building this Rainbow themed candy table was easy and hassle-free.  Sweet City Candy (an online candy shop) has a wide variety of rainbow colored candy that was perfect for my table, including jelly beans, rock candy and swirl lollipops. All that was left for me to do was to get creative with displaying the candy! MY FAVORITE PART! I wanted to create a rainbow of candy across the entire length of the table and jelly beans were perfect to do this. Sweet City Candy sells them individually in all 7 colors of the rainbow which made it super easy to create this Jelly Bean Rainbow Display! One 5lb. bag of each color of jelly beans can easily fill a 12″ tall cylinder glass vase. To create the jelly bean rainbow display, I simply arranged all 7 of the vases side by side down the back of the table. There were even enough jelly beans left over to pre-fill each of the favor boxes with a rainbow mix of jelly beans…such a timesaver! Just for HWTM readers, Sweet City Candy is offering an exclusive discount on your candy order here.

Check out this fabulous Rainbow Dash cake topper and rainbow fondant toppers from Fancy Cakes that I used to top rainbow colored chocolate covered Oreos from Autumn Sins Chocolate Sins! They also made these sparkly cake pops & candy apples in each color of the rainbow that came delivered wrapped in cellophane and tied with a rainbow ribbon that made them perfect take home sweets. Of course, I always include custom labeled cotton candy from Soiree Event Design Shop at all my parties….guests LOVE it and it’s pre-packaged in a small bag which makes it an easy take home favor without all the sticky mess.

Sparkle Rainbow Dress Up Bar & Photo Shoot
After the craft activity, the girls visited the Sparkle Rainbow Dress Up Bar complete with a custom rainbow tutu for the birthday girl by Atutudes and tutus, mini top hats by Cupcake Wishes & Birthday Dreams, tutu wands by Titi’s Tutus and bubblegum necklaces by Autumn Lynn’s Chocolate Sins for each guest. They also painted their nails in rainbow colors and finished them off with My Little Pony “cutie marks” (nail decals). Little girls love playing dress up and they loved this part. When they were done getting all dolled up, the girls had a photo shoot where they modeled their looks.

My Little Pony Rainbow Activities
Carry out the character’s theme by offering activities that match the character. Here, the guests created their own Rainbows in a Bottle by using craft sand in every color of the rainbow to fill plastic milk bottles with lids from Hoopla Events. I personalized each guest’s bottle by tying a personalized favor tag around the top of the bottle with sparkly gold bakers twine from Koyal Wholesale so each guest could find their craft at the end of the party.

The last activity was loads of fun! Each guest was given a custom designed rainbow “Sparkle Sack” by The Purple Pug that the girls used to collect golden eggs in a Rainbow Dash Scavenger Hunt.

Sparkle Rainbow Favor Bar
Creating wow factor moments is my favorite part to any party design and this sequin rainbow backdrop is just that. I created this backdrop by layering one sequin table runner of each color from Koyal Wholesale side by side to create a rainbow pattern. The sparkle was just gorgeous! To balance out the rainbow colors in the backdrop I added a glittered Rainbow banner from Made By A Princess.

It looks amazing but the high sugar content makes my teeth hurt (and I have a serious sweet tooth). Would've loved to see some kid friendly food that won't have them bouncing off the walls :-(.
