Art App Party
Tonya Coleman here from Soireé Event Design, and I’m back with the “Trend Alert” where I share with you some of the hottest trends in party planning! Today’s guest post is all about the hot new trend — App Themed Parties. They are all the rage and gaining in popularity. Don’t be surprised like I was when my daughter requested a playdate themed after one of her favorite apps–Disney Creativity Studio 2!

App themed parties are tricky to decorate for as they usually don’t have a line of party goods to use, so you’ll have to get creative and really concentrate on the apps theme and scenery. Here I styled my daughter’s playdate with an art theme as Disney Creativity Studio 2 is an art-themed app where she can draw, paint, decorate and use many online tools to create fabulous online art pieces.

5 Steps to Hosting an App Themed Party

STEP 1: Host your party at a venue inspired by the app’s scenery or theme.
I chose to do the party at a local kids’ art studio in my city called Kidcreate Studio. They provide all the art supplies (paint, paper, aprons, easels, etc) and I don’t have to worry about any mess or cleanup in my house! LOVE THAT!

STEP 2: Decorate with Items Inspired by the App.
Disney cardboard standups were perfect to bring in large wow factors to the party space. I decorated the dining table with color coordinated paper goods, a paint splat runner and these custom designed CREATE letters made a perfect centerpiece! All of these items travel well and are lightweight which is important when you are decorating a public party space.

STEP 3: Provide App Themed Activities.
The app is all about allowing kids to use online tools to create works of art. In a party setting I just brought those activities to life in actual activities from coloring and decorating Anna’s garden cottage, drawing a scene for Baymax and painting and decorating houses for Palace Pets or just drawing whatever they want on a drawing wall.

STEP 4: Offer Themed Desserts.
The art theme was carried through to the dessert table where the kids could decorate their own cupcake and enjoy many themed desserts such as an art palette of paint cake balls, chocolate paint palettes, gumball filled paint buckets and chocolate covered oreos and mini donuts in all the colors of the rainbow!

STEP 5: Send Guests Home With Themed Favors.
I printed some of the coloring sheets from the app and created a coloring book and placed them in a Disney bucket with crayons. As a special surprise the boys also got these super cute Lightning McQueen racing shirts and the girls each took home an Elsa and Anna costume.
