DIY Tutorial: Watercolor Popsicle Stick Table Runner

DIY watercolor popsicle stick table runner tutorial

For our new “About to POP” Popsicle Baby Shower, I used watercolor textures and popsicle sticks as key elements in the printables and the decor. And my favorite piece of decor ended up being something that combined both of these things: a Watercolor Popsicle Stick Table Runner!

If you’re looking for a fun and easy craft for summer, this is a great one to try. You don’t even need to wait for a party to throw either – this is a fun way to dress up your everyday table too! We’re even thinking it would make for a pretty cool, artsy “chair rail” on the studio wall. ;)

WATERCOLOR POPSICLE STICK TABLE RUNNER – A DIY TUTORIAL

***

Materials:

  • Watercolor paints (I just picked up a $5 rainbow palette from Michaels!)
  • Paint Brushes
  • Large Popsicle Sticks (We used the 6 x 3/4″ size)
  • Painters Tape
  • Cup of water

Step by Step Instructions:

1. Paint popsicle sticks a little more than halfway, creating a gradient effect as the paint tapers off. Let dry. (Macy wanted to help the girls out of course!)

2. Arrange finished sticks in a line with random alignment. Make sure you like the arrangement of colors. Flip the sticks over, and use blue painters tape or masking tape to attach them together. You can be “messy” with the tape – no one will see it!

TIP: For easy storage and transport, I recommending making small sections of about 10-15 popsicle sticks each and just setting them next to each other on the tablescape to create the runner. This way you can easily stack the sections later. I used 6 sections of 14 sticks each to cover a standard 6-ft banquet table.
